Hi guys,
I have a 22hp Yanmar, and would like to add a rotary cutter to it to cut (mostly pasture) additional areas around my yard. I have a a ZTR for my lawn, but don't want to use it in these areas (ground is uneven, tall grass). I am looking for an economical (new or used) brush cutter. Can I get away with a 5ft. King Cutter (I don't think they make a 48" model)? or is there another brand that is for reasonably priced available in Canada or Northern NY?

Thanks,
Rob

If all you're cutting is "tall grass" you can likely get away with the 5' mower. I have a 24 hp Kubota and have the 5' KK. It does an adequate job. If you're cutting small brush etc, you may want to go down to the 4'.

Actually King Kutter does make a 4ft rotary cutter. I have looked at them at TSC before. I believe the price was around 600.00 U.S. if I remember right.

Its a good thing if your mower is just a tad wider than your rear wheels,,its not a good thing if mower is not as wide as your rear wheels set,,,,,,,so,,,if a four ft one covers your rear tracks get a four ft one,,,if not,,,than get a five ft one,,,,,22hp should handle a 5ft one,,,,,and yes,,kingkutter makes 4 ft ones as most others do,,,,,,,,,thingy

I will look at TSC again, but on there website they don't show the 48".
My rear track is currently ~42", but with my turfs, it is closer to 50"

thanks,
Rob

If the 22 hp is the engine hp, then the PTO hp is probably 18 or 19. That may be a little light for a 5' unless you keep the grass mowed pretty often. BUT. If possible you would want the cutter wider than your wheels. It is much easier to mow along fences, buildings, trees, etc. if the cutter is wider than the wheels.

KK makes a 42 or 44" 'XB' line or something like that.. then it has a 48" and 50".. etc.

IMHO I think the 5' is going to be a drain on that 22hp tractor unless you are just knocking the black tops off of some stemmy bahai...

I'm not saying it won't do it.. you may get creative with that lower gearing and not have any real problems.
