Landpride posthole auger HD 25

Anyone out there own a landpride hd 25 series hydralic bucketmount posthole auger? If so, how well does it work , what kind of ground, size flites, list/dealers price ect. Was quoted $1500 for 15in. flites and 14'" extension... would like to learn more thanks Guys,....Im listening....

Hey, cowboydoc, I dont think a driver will work in my area.... ive put 220 posts in by hand (punchdigger) and I had to use a frost bar for most of them! We have a mix of hardclay,rocky gravel soil here. This digger would be mostly for corner, primary/secondary posts which have to be below frost line 4to 5 feet. A 3 pnt digger wouldnt be very helpful unless there is down pressure. This unit seems ideal cause it has down pressure, and it can be reversed in case of rock. The auger is 48", plus a 14" extension = 5' Give another 12" for augerhead would make 74". (6'-2") The front bucket of the fel(430 loader) on the machine Im looking to buy says max. lift height is101.4". I dont mind back filling by hand and I could borrow a hydralic tamp from work(Im a Lineman for power co.) I sure would like to Know if this unit will do the job. The specs say that it calls for5-12 gpm and the tractor is rated at 8.2 gpm. Max. RPM at auger 109. This unit is new for 2001 and I thought just by chance, maybe someone out there has one and could tell me more about it. Dealer didnt know they made one till i asked for a price. (he had never sold one and it wasnt in his price book) he had to call landpride. Cowboydoc, thanks for the suggestion but I dont think it would work for wood, but i bet it would work good for steel( they only have to be a foot or so deep) Thanks for answering my post You guys have been my only "real" source of practical info. Suprised too, didn't know landpride came out with a hyd. digger. Just to compare, have you checked out the McMillens?
Proven units, nothing bad to say about 'em. As far as I'm conerned if you have a backhoe, the only way to go is hyd. digger. Those 3ph mounts are ok (don't ever get sucked into that landpride down pressure kit, it's a joke) But like you said, down pressure and reversible, can't beat that.

Hello kubmech, and thanks for responding. I have not heard of mcmillen but am really interested! Where can I find the specs and dealers of mcmillen augers? Do you have to put them on a hoe, or can you put them on the fel? What kind of money are we talking? Ran into a deadend with ATI homepage (Which owns mcmillen) Do you own one? Thanks for the info......Im listening......

As I mentioned in another post we used to do contracts for the govt. for fencing on BLM and Forest Service land. We had one of those hydraulic augers with a carbide bit and let me tell you it would go through anything, even solid rock. Out there you have to run the fence on the lines that they want and that means going through alot of rock at times. I have no idea what it cost or even the brand name now, that was probably 18 years ago now. They did work really good though. You're right though unless you are driving the 4" steel posts the post driver isn't going to help you alot.

Thanks for the reply, cowboydoc. We judge rock size up here by appliance size example...toaster,microwave, tv, refridgirator, freezer, then from there we have toyota, chevy ect. We found a buick in front of my barn putting in underground wire. It wasnt granite or river rock but something known up here as leverite. ("leave er right there":~)

All the ones I've mounted go on the hoe or the front bucket with a quick coupler on skid steers. Can't help much with price, (flat refuse to have anything to do with our sales dept. Sorry, wont even go their, even for you guys) I'll try to dig up a phone number for you.

I use mine on a Kubota L4310 which has ~7-8 GPM of implement flow. Here are some details (mfg phone#, specs, and a toll free number).

5 = 65
6 = 78
7 = 91

The dealer told me you need at least 85-90RPM under no load to spin/shake the dirt off the auger once it is out of the hole. I rarely use full speed while digging (it digs too fast).

Torque is specified as follows:

PSI = Torque (ft/lbs)
2000 = 470
2100 = 493
2200 = 516
2300 = 540
2400 = 563
2500 = 587
2600 = 610
2700 = 634
2800 = 657
2900 = 681
3000 = 704

I do not have a clue how these specs compare with a PTO driven auger. One nice thing I see is the specs are basically independant of your tractors PTO horsepower and size as long as the flow and psi are within the ranges stated. Not sure if it really matters though since high horsepower will just break shear bolts.

My owners manual shows that McMillen offers a complete set of mounting options (Skid Steer, Backhoe, under or side Bucket, 3PH, 3PH with downforce). FYI// This is the smallest unit McMillen makes. It looks like most of their stuff is for full size backhoes and excavators.

Forget the comment on sheer bolts in my last post. If the auger stalls, you just reverse the hydraulics.
