Does anyone have experience with a Fimco LG-3025 ATV Boomless Nozzle Sprayer? It is advertised as 3.8 GPM, 45 PSI (adjustable), 25 Gallon, (3) adjustable nozzles (maximum 30 ft. spray pattern), and "Roundup ready." For additional specs, go to: Fimco LG-3025

I want to apply weed controls to my lawn (2 acres) and horse pasture (5 acres), vegetation killer (Round Up) to pasture fence lines, and fertilizer to lawn and pasture. I may also spray insecticide on trees and shrubs. Thanks, for any comments. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have the same Fimco sprayer except it has no boom and a different pump (2.1 gpm, 0-60 psi). I use it all the time to spray Round-up.

This particular model and its variants have been discussed several times here. As I recall, there have been no bad comments.

Just ordered almost the same one from Northern Tool. I hope they are a good unit. I plan to do the same type of work with mine.

Weed killer to my fence line and 8 acre pasture. I will mount mine on my Kubota RTV

Looks like a nice unit and the pump manufacturer has always made good marine pumps.

This company is an alternative. Similar product and the quality seems good. The question may be which product cost less.

The only negative about these is that 25 gallons does not go far.
You will need to fill it multiple times for those 5 acres.

A 3-point model costs a lot more, but is much more capable.

Rusty,

I have a Fimco ATV 25-71 mounted on a KingKutter carryall - it uses the same pump and has a 140" boom and a wand. I'm currently having some problems with the pump in terms of inconsistent performance - it may be nothing (needs adjusted or something) or it could be that I got a bad one. I just haven't had time to make the call again to Fimco to have them troubleshoot it over the phone, wlthough we have exchanged a couple of emails on it.

I'm spraying about 4+ acres of lawn with it (Trimec), pesticide in the garden (rotenone), and fertilizer. I don't about Roundup but I do know that Gordon's Vegetation Killer says to dedicate a sprayer to it's use and use it for nothing else. Anybody know how critical this is ? (I'm using Nutrasol for my cleanouts)

Like Phred says - 25 gallons is small - for doing the lawn and pasture - for the fence line it might be fine ..... wish I had gone with a 55 gallon myself.

I think the whole Roundup/glyphosate thing is about stability.

It will break down and lose potency when exposed to some types of chemicals or contaminants for any substantial length of time.

If you do not have a dedicated Roundup tank, when you mix a batch or Roundup, use it all up. It won't break down the same day unless there is a gross amount of chemical or contamination.

If you have a dedicated ROundup tank, you can store a mixture for a few days without much loss of potency. As with most chemical reactions, temperature is a factor. It breaks down more slowly if stored in a cool place.

Randall, I would sure like to see how you set that up. Any chance of getting a picture?

When the rig is working do you get good coverage? Any performance negatives?

Thanks,
Mark

I've had a 15 gallon, 12v trailer version for years. It's great for applying broadleaf control to the lawn, Malathion to trees with the wand, Roundup wherever you want it with either the boom (maybe 6 ft coverage) or the wand.

I picked up a 55 Gal 3 pt PTO driven unit this spring at a yard sale. The extra capacity would get me through the whole yard with one tank with broadleaf control.(2+ acres). The boom on this guy is probably 12 feet, it folds in thirds.

We seem to be on the edge of a drought here in Ohio so I tapped into the discharge side of the pump with a barbed tee a valve and a garden hose connection, it makes a great watering device. I put a 55 gallon plasic barrel in the bucket, got 55 gallons in back, I'm a waterin fool!

I'm real careful about any cross contamination.
Rinse, rinse, rinse...

Mark,

Sorry for the delay in replying to your post.

I'll try and get a picture later today (once I figure out where the digital camera is /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) Inspired by pictures of Bob Skurka's set up, I added a hose reel from Harbor Freight and another 50' of hose to the spraygun/wand. I used the white plastic hose (EVP ?) which is supposed to last longer but hindsight being 20/20 I wish I had used the black EPDM hose which is more flexible. I still need to add a shutoff valve to it to take the spraygun out of the loop.

Yup, sure do - 140" worth. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The unit came with standard (80° flat fan) TP8002 (yellow) TeeJet plastic spray tips. I've picked up a set of XR8004 (red) TeeJet extended range (pressure) tips. These tips have double the output of the TP8002's at the same pressure and are designed to operate at a lower pressure (down to 15 psi) than the TP8002's. I'm spraying Trimec on my lawn and the (coverage) rate is 4 gallons of solution per 1000 sq ft. The TP8002's only put out about 1.6 gallons per 1000 sq ft, running about as slow as I can go in low range. The 8004's should get me a little closer to the recommended coverage rate.

Nope, not really - the unit worked just fine initially and then the third time I used it the pump's pressure became inconsistent - sometimes the pump doesn't develop the pressure it should. When that happens the spray on some of the nozzles on the boom will become inconsistent, because the nozzles are 10 psi, no drip .... one or two of them will shut off, turn back on, etc. The pump also was "drooling" a little bit, which I wouldn't think is right ...... given that solution ends up running all over.

I just spoke to Fimco customer service and spoke with Jim - with the drooling problem he thought it might only be a bad check valve in the pump, but decided to just go ahead and send me an entire new replacement pump. Pretty good service I'd say.

have blue/Curt,

So you guys think that it's ok to run Roundup/Vegetation Killer in the same unit as the one I'm using for spraying the lawn with Trimec and fertilizer, provided I'm thorough with cleaning it out ? What if I was going to use that unit for spraying pesticides on the veggie garden ?

I've got 800'+ of fencerow to hit along with some other areas and using the Fimco on the tractor would sure beat lugging around a hand pump sprayer .......
