Tractor
New Holland TC29DA
I have a New Holland TC29DA HST with 23.6 PTO HP. I am looking at a 60" KingKutter TG-60 tiller with a PTO HP range of 25-40 HP. The tractor is roughly 60" wide. The TG-48 (48") tiller has a HP range of 20-35 and can offset. I understand what can happen if the tractor is underpowered for the tiller, but is being off by 1.4HP enough of a difference to worry about? Or, even if the tractor isn't underpowered, is it better to go with the smaller tiller with offset because the power is better matched to the smaller tiller? I'm willing to look at other tillers if anyone has a suggestion but I am concerned about price (I can get the KKII tillers for loosely around 1100-1200 range.)

I've got a JD 4400 which has about 32 hp on the PTO, and I run a 72" KK tiller. I do run the slip clutch a little loose but it works just fine for me. I may go slower than some people, but I also have soil that is more rock than dirt.

Your TC29 is more powerful than my TC24. I use a 50" Land Pride RTA1550 side shift tiller with the TC24. Now I have had to slow down when tilling in heavy clay, but otherwise the TC24 handles the 50 tiller without a problem. Your TC29 is roughly the same HP/PTO HP as my B2910, the same tiller is used with that larger tractor and nothing slows it down. I strongly suspect that the B2910 could run a 60" tiller without any problems except in very heavy clay, and then it would just be a little slow. That said, I think you could handle the 60" King Kutter with the TC29 and not have any problems.

The TC 29 will run the KK 60" tiller just fine.
You have HST, if you start to loose power simply slow down a bit.

I also run a 50" (Howard) tiller with my TC24 and it does just fine. Even on unbroken ground it doesn't slow down much.

I have a CCM 60" (450lbs) for my B7500 (17HP PTO). Works great on new ground although I'm not one for pushing too deep or fast on that new ground. My soil is about 30% shale rock with some granite thrown-in. Kicks out some good ones from time to time.

I've got a subcompact Case DX24E (twin to the NH TZ24DA)and I have the same exact tiller as Bob Skurka uses on his compact TC24. I can't take a 6" bite out of hard packed, dry clay in one pass, but it digs in pretty well, even on that small machine. If my little machine can run that 50" tiller, then your machine probably wouldn't even know it's back there.

u can run it!
What us should think about is do u have alot of tilling of wide open areas or a little tilling of tight spots?
The bigger tiller better for large open areas the smaller better for tight spots or if you just plain are not going to till very much? It takes about 10 minutes to do an average sized garden with either one!!!!

Thanks for the information. I feel better about getting a larger tiller now. I am a little too cautious sometimes because I don't want to push the equipment too far and my lack of experience just means I don't know how far is too far yet.
