Hello Ive got a Ck30hst, and im looking to run some underground electrical down to my pond and driveway area. Will a subsoiler/middlebuster dig a trench 18" deep? Dont know alot about them or possibly another implement? Any help would be appreciated...

A subsoiler will probably lay a wire about 10" deep, give or take a bit. If you can weld, you could make a longer shaft to dig deeper.

Here is a photo of the subsoiler I modified to bury electrical wire: Sub Soiler cable layer

You really cant beat the right tool for the job. A walk behind trencher is around $100 for the day.

Think about the time and cost of building something compared to having the project finished in a day.

Thanks Bob and Eddie, but i plan on using the implement more then one day.. The trenchers here in NY are about 200 a day. So i guess the real question i have is do the middlebusters really work? I can weld and do have a welder, and could add a extension to get more debth. I have a TSC about a half hour away and i believe they have the middlebusters for around 200. Any advice is appreciated... your idea will work just fine, a couple of passes should get the depth you need. i am just about to do the same thing.

I have the TSC subsoiler/middle buster and my soil is about a foot of top soil over sand. I have had the subsoiler to about 12 inches deep but don't think it will reach 18 inches without modification. You may be able to use the middle buster to form a trench as deep as you can get it and then use the subsoiler to get deeper and run the wire.
Eddie's idea is still the best so far if you are only going to use it a few times. The walk behind trenchers really do a very good job and do it quite fast and there is only a narrow trench that needs to be filled when you are done. Roots are not much of a problem and clay is do-able.
On the $200 rental, I have found that it pays to shop around because the prices vary quite a bit when you rent.

Today I pulled 1300 feet of 1" pvc pipe with my subsoiler pipe plow. Also pulled 10-2 wire along with the pipe on one 250' section. The pipe is 12" deep and I pulled it with a JD 4520 fwd which is 45 pto hp. Had to make a dry pass first.

You should buy a subsoiler and run it as deep as it will go and pull the wire with it. You will have to make a couple of dry passes to get the max. depth. I have pulled 8-2 wire over 600' in one stretch with no dry pass.

What you need is a vibrating subsoiler to get to the code required dept of 18" for electrical in the ground and if you got and gophers or other critters you might want to put it in PVC pipe they love to chew the wires.
