i'm thinking of getting a york rake for my jd 790. not too sure about which type to get,a friend of mine has the kind w/ adjustable wheels on the rear. i was thinking that type would be my best bet as it seems to be able to be finely tuned. one project i was planning to use it for was after brush hogging an area of old pasture which has been overtaken by wild rose bushes/sumack, i would then "rake" them up into a pile in order to burn them. it seems very feasible w/ a york rake, plus that way i don't have to pick that stuff up by hand anymore.

Are you using York Rake as a description for Landscape Rake? I have a Land Pride rake that worked OK raking. Then I added gage wheels. It will level and clear a area very easily.
Raking grass or other stick type materials is not what they were designed for. Some TBNer's have used them to do projects like you are asking about. It's better than trying to do it by hand.

I've used mine for raking up brush and it does a good job. No real need for the gauge wheels if that is all you will be using it for. But for leveling and smoothing, the wheels are much needed.

farmerjean, I agree with the others on this. Add the guage wheels. You will never be sorry. I built mine and I used 3ft 1/4" square tubing. Putting the wheels out that far allows me to use the top link to adust how deep I want the teeth to dig. Usually I adjust it so that they are just about to touch the ground when on a flat. This lets is drag material that is in the high spots and move it to the low spots easily.
I have a couple of pics of the quage wheels on my link to my pics.

York Rake is the copyright name for a patented product manufactured by York Modern Corporation Corporation of NY. They are the folks that invented the York Rake which is now called by its generic name Landscape Rake. Since they own the rights to the name York Rake, all others are called landscape rakes. Just like Kleenex and tissues... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My York rake is nearing 18 years old. It has performed flawlessly (get the gauge wheels) and looks nearly new even after being stored outside here in New England. Now other brands may be as good, or who knows better, but mine owes me nary a penny. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
