King Kutter 4ft bush hog

I am real new at this and have a couple of questions.

I found it very difficult to keep the bush hog at a good cutting hight, is there a trick to this or a easy way to do it.

The back wheel does not track with the mower, it drags sideways most of the time, how much pressure should be on the back wheel.

what does the top link adjust for the mower?

I know it is alot of questions but I really do not have a clue, and I did some damage to the back yard when I tried to use it.

Jim, assuming that there is nothing broken or damaged on the rear wheel assembly, and it's height adjustment is already set to the proper height, sounds like the first thing to do is lengthen your top link. With the mower sitting on the ground (all the rear end weight on the rear wheel with it turned to it normal trailing position) check the height of the rear edge of the mower. Is it adjusted to the height you want? If not, change it. Then, with it hooked up to the tractor, lower, or raise, the 3-point hitch to get the height that you want for the front edge of the mower. Then adjust the length of the top link to allow the full weight of the rear of the mower to ride on the rear wheel.

I set my cutter so that the tail wheel is on the ground, but there are a couple of inches of play so that if I drop the hitch down all the way the front of the cutter will go down a couple more inches. I set the front about 1/2 inch lower than the back.

There's no exact science because of the lay of the land. I try to keep my back wheel on the ground where it rolls with the deck adjusted so it appears level when on flat ground. As you drive over hills and dips the frame may drag or the rear wheel leave the ground while mowing.

Your real wheel in perfect condition will track with the cutter. Make sure you have the wheel's height adjusted correctly and you have everything greased so things turn freely.

When I am mowing, I don't want the rear wheel to leave the ground. If it does, I lengthen the top link, leaving it loose. The top link is only used to lift the deck when I want to quit mowing or get over an object such as a rock or stump. The top link is not used to adjust the height of the deck, in my humble opinion. As Bird said, the rear wheel is the height adjustment for the rear of the deck, and the 3pt arms are the height adjustment for the front of the deck. Right to left height is adjusted by the adjustable link to the one 3pt arm.
