In 1999, the Italians started coping the floating hitch features of the finish mowers made in the USA. At that time the US$ was very strong and importers had a purchasing advantage selling European goods in the USA. The Italians started offering powder paint when the US MFG's were still working with a wet paint system. We saw the prices start to go down. While this was happening the Koreans and Chinese were watching what was going on in the USA. The finish mower market is largely a USA market driven by compact tractor owners.
Now it is common to see the 3rd generation Korean and Chinese copies of the USA models being sold in the USA. They have the features of the higher priced mowers and the quality is almost there as well. It is just a matter of time before the finish mower market will be dominated by the Korean & Chinese MFG's.
The 6' mower pictured below sells retail now for $699. That is $500-$700 less than the European models. You can see them being sold from many different sources now. The market will make the decision on the value!
