84\" Rear Finish Mower

Is anyone running an 84" rear discharge 3ph finish mower? What brand? Any comments, likes, dislikes, or second thoughts?

I wish/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.Picked up a side discharge King Kutter(7') a few months ago,it has inflatable tires.AAARRRRRGGGHH! If I have one more flat...I'm cutting the rubber off and just running on the rims!Looking for solid wheels now.

HR Mutt:
I also have a King Kutter finish mower for 2 years but yet to have a flat. I also thought flats would be a problem. I did buy some Slime for the tires but have yet to use it. You might consider Slime for your machine. Should work great for small punctures.

Thanks, will watch for some. The tire that keeps going quite possibly is rubbing on the support arms that hold the wheel. It's knocking the tire off the rim. There are some light witness marks where it rubs. Will attack it end of mowing season or sooner.

I have a Befco that does the same thing. Fighting it for 6 years. I called the company today and they are sending me 4 tubes for the tires for FREE! Wish I would have called 6 years ago....

Re: 84" Rear Finish Mower

Glennmac,

I am running a Woods RD8400 rear discharge finish mower with my Kubota L4610. Great results with about 20 hours of mower time thus far. I do have the front antiscalp roller on order as the deck occasionally wants to dig in on very uneven ground. So far the quality of cut exceeds that of our push lawn mower and small rider. As a bonus, my weekly mowing time is down from 3.5 hours to 1.5!

Re: 84\" Rear Finish Mower

Driver, I am thinking of moving up from a 2910 to something bigger, and part of the rationale is that I can use a 7' finish mower instead of my 6' and can use a 6' rotary cutter instead of my 5'. The two dealers I talk two raise the scalping issue constantly. But they did that when I bought the 6' belly mower for my 2910 instead of the 5' they recommended. There is no doubt the 6' was a better choice.

My lawns are relatively flat with some undulations. There are a couple of places where my 6' belly mower will scalp if I approach from the wrong angle. I just dont see how an extra foot would result in a scalping massacre, but I'm a little afraid to invest the money and find out I was wrong. As far a fitting through things, the 7' rear discharge is about the same width as my 6' belly mower with the chute down, so I dont think I should have a problem there.

Guess I was just looking for any good experiences or horror stories with a 7' finish mower.

Re: 84" Rear Finish Mower

Just bought a Land Pride FDR2584 from the local Kubota dealer. It works great. Very smooth cut. Cuts my mowing time drastically ( I was using a 4ft deck on a Cub Cadet 125). The cuttings are fairly well distributed out the back. Cutting height adjustments are easy. It runs very quietly. It can even cut heavy, tall grass with no problem. Just need to go over it twice to get a smooth cut. I use it on a Kubota L4310HST. Run the engine at about 1800 to 2000 RPM which is below the 540RPM PTO speed. So far the underside of the deck has stayed clean. No grass (even heavy grass) has not stuck to the underside. The best price I could get locally(NJ) was $2350. Prices for the same Woods brand varied from $2500 to $2800 locally.
I have only one minor complaint. The belt covers were put on before the paint was dry thus causing bare metal to be exposed where the cover contacts the mower deck. If I kept the mower outside I'd paint the metal. But I keep it inside.

Re: 84" Rear Finish Mower

I'm using an RD8400 on a 3010. It is a heavy mower at 750#s. I have used it for about 15 hrs. and as yet have no complaints. It mows as well as my 318 with a 46" deck. I paid $1900 b/4 sales tax in MI for it.

Re: 84\" Rear Finish Mower

King Kutter did put solid tires on older models. The only problem I had with them is If you turned to fast and got the tire in a bind it would come off the rim.
This only happened about twice a year so it was no big deal.I'm on my 2nd 72" King Kutter now. 3 yrs and no flats on the tires.(Knock on Wood)
You can probably find a dealer with the solid tire's hidden on the back shelve. The last ones I looked at came with the rims.
