I am ready to purchase a CCM 58" wide MR-160 Rototiller for my Kubota B7800. The size seems right for my tractor, could I get away with the lighter duty CR (medium duty) verses the MR (commercial duty)? For only $100 it seams logical to get the heavier duty tiller? I will be using it to turn the garden every year, break up existing grassed areas to turn them into flower beds, and any small side jobs that come my way. Any thoughts, or any comments from those that have one?
Thanks,
Paul

I have the 66" model. I must be honest, I am not too impressed. Seems light, bounces around a lot. Also, the slip clutch end of the PTO shaft doesnt lock onto the tiller's spindle, so I've had the shaft bounce off twice, which is insanely unsafe. I'm actually considering selling it.

Now, granted, my soil is kinda rocky and tough, so the "bouncing" may not be such a problem in sandy loam soil. There is no excuse for selling a product as dangerous as this PTO shaft/slip clutch arrangement...

If the shaft is coming off, there's something missing. I would never use a tiller with a self-releasing shaft. Is there a pin missing, or is the slip clutch not locking on?

If you do purchase another tiller, I dont think you will be unhappy with the First Choice line of quailty equipment that we handle--Ken Sweet

The 2 plate clutch is a bolt on style with 2 bolts with lock nuts. Do not use the tiller if either side of the Pto is not securely fastened. If you are having a soil penetration problem your PTO maybe too long and need to be cut so the PTO will not ****** the movement of the tiller down into the soil. The tines are of a scroll design and should screw the tiller down into the soil. Make sure to run the tiller at 540 RPM's as shown on you tractors tachometer. There are thousands of these tillers sold every year, the design is tested over 25 years of selling tillers. Please contact us and we will work to fix your problems immediately.

pashworth,

I have had a MR series (42" model, I think) for almost 2 years now. I used to run it behind a 17hp Kubota B-1550, but now I have a NH TC24DA. I have tilled a tremendous amount with this tiller and have had NO PROBLEMS! I was very impressed with the customer service at CCM and they took the time to answer all of my questions.

I till gardens in the spring all over the place and tilled for preseeding around my house when construction was done which has/had a lot of shale...no troubles. I also have a backhoe and the tiller comes in handy a week or so after the job to go back in and clean up everything.

I highly suggest this tiller. My only wish is that I had a wider one!

Here's a pic of mine. You'll notice a couple of things....I took the skid shoes off when I till gardens because I can get down deeper. I put the shoes back on when I do reclaiming type work because it will follow the contour of the land and not go too deep.

And yes, I know, the PTO guard is missing! I thought I would point that out before some of the "safety-guru's" do!

Hope this helps your decision!

Joe

Keep an eye on the bottom of the gear box if you're going to run with the skid shoes off. In time it could wear a hole in it.

I'm very pleased with my CCM tiller also.

Charolais,

You know, I've thought of that since the paint was wearing off of the bottom. I suppose parts are available...I hope. CCM are you there?

We have enough parts to start building them here but we rarely sell anything but some tines every now and then.
