Does anyone have experience with this baler. Looking at one to buy, a 1991. Borrowed it last night and rolled 8 bales. Anything in particular I need to watch out for on this model? thanks

Its a Good baler. Does it have the spiral roller or the square starter roller? Doesn't really matter much but some adjustments are a little different. It should have a double twine tie with either electric or hydraulic actuator. We have sold hundreds of the 505I balers and can help you with any adjustment or parts.

I noticed the used one on your website has only 5 belts, 3 wide and 2 narrow. The one I'm looking at has, I think 8 narrow belts. Is the difference just yours being a newer model? I've also heard talk aboult a couple of plates that you can bolt inside just above the drive roller that look like moon shaped hubcaps for a lack of a better discription. What are these for and are they worth it? Thanks, This Vermeer bales like a cadallic compaired to the IH8444 we have.

Those plates are called bale restrictors. They are positioned just over the bottom drum roller that turns the bale. What they do is restrict the forming of hay next to the side wall of the baler. This reduces HP demand. If you decide to bale haylage you need to use these restrictor plates.
