I have a well weighted Hay King Disc Harrow that I have been using to disc up the food plots but I'd like to get in even deeper and turn the soil a bit more. I have seen s tines, clamps and bolt on points at tractor supply has anybody ever done this or for some reason do you see any reason why it wouldn't work. I hate to run out and spend another $1000+ for a chisel plow or some other sort of stationary plow type machine. The Hay King has the gangs mounted underneath the frame and I could staighten the gangs and clamp the tines to them or I could mount it to the harrow frame the gangs would be best because I could cover more ground at once as the frame is probably 4' and the gangs are 8'. The Hay King brand is pretty well constructed maybe not as well as tuffline but darn near so I don't think I could do any damage especially with the spring type s tine brackets. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated it seems like a good cheap way to have a multi use attachment but on the other hand I'd hate to destroy my disc at least not without asking for some input first on the off chance somebody has tryed this and failed or broken something in the process. I believe they call this bumping but I have another idea/question. How about mounting the s tines and stuff on my 84" extreme duty woods box blade it weighs 1000+lbs if the disc sounds iffy.

Food plots with various grasses, clovers. oats etc, really don't need deep seed bed preperation. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Slamfire, My tractor dealer says the same thing but I really would like them to come in like crops and not just OK. I also am working on my honey's garden and she is unhappy with the depth and the nice part she being the CFO has authorized a new attachment, I just figured I'd look at alternatives first before I run out and spend another grand plus because using a 90hp tractor has its down side in that a cheapy from TSC would fold up the first time I hang it on something very big. I did go out this morning before going to work and looked at both the BB and the disc and neither is the perfect setup although the BB shows some promise if I could buy longer scarifiers and or modify the ones I've got to accept the spring type points so that they could give instead of bend or break.

Why not just use a moldboard plow first.. "S" tines won't allow that deep of penetration unless the dirt is already worked up.

That is what I think you should do also. You can get a good older moldboard plow for very little money at a auction. About three years ago, I was at an auction and picked up a MF # 66, three bottom plow that was in like new shape for only $130. The points were even pointed just like new.

kensfarm and Jerry do you by chance have a picture of a moldboard plow so I know what I'm looking for and what size xou'd reccommend for my 90hp machine bearing in eind that I'd like to stay around 7' or so. Also any reckmmended brands that would hold up well given the abundajce of rocks froe fist to dog house size (great dane). Are there different types and points that I'll need to decide on?

Chisal plow will work fine.. after chisal plowing & hitting it w/ the disk set.. you'll have worked up the ground pretty good.

I can't imagine you having more rock than we do. After I turn land and it rains, it looks like I had rock hauled in and spread. They work just fine in rocky soil.
