I was out trying to calibrate my tractor speed and pump pressure to spray my weeds so I can get my lawn in. My problem is that the sprayer manual says if I spray at 30psi at 5mph I should get about 10gal/acre. This is all well and good but I cannot get enough back pressure with the sprayer on to get any reading on the guage. The guage sucks since it is in 10 psi increments but does not start until 20 psi. When I close the valve the pressure goes up to 100-200 psi. It is hard to tell since with the valve closed there is so much vibration that the needle is vibrating all over the place. With the valve open the needle very calmly sits at 0. I have turned the pressure adjuster both ways and no luck. I just looked at the nozzles they say Lurmark 02F80. Are these the right tips? Any suggestions on geting the back pressure up? I am using a hydro 6500c pump. I am running about 2000rpm on the engine. About 2600 rpm gives 540rpm at the pto.

Thanks,
Eric

First step would be to get a better gauge, maybe? You can get liquid filled gauges that don't dance like that, they're not expensive, and th ebigger the gauge face the smaller the increments (also easier to read when your eyes are tired like mine!)

I called TSC to see if they could check the nozzles on the other sprayer they had. They are the same nozzle so I told him my problem. He thought it was strange that I could get 200psi with the sprayer off but 0 with it on. He thought it was a plumbing problem. TSC had assembled the unit so I had to just start checking things. I took the hose coming out of the pump off at the valve and turned on the pto. Guess what, very little flow. I then took the strainer off under the tank. I got a small stream of water. I thought there had to be more flow through this line than that. I raised the 3pt up and looked underneath the spayer. Hey, there is a valve going into the strainer. I opened the valve and turned on the pto and water came gushing out the hose. I hooked everthing up and it works as expected. I still don't like the guage but at least I can now set pressure and the spray looks a lot more like what I expected.
