Dad had the tiller (set up to run behind his JD 455, cat. 0). I'm trying to work a deal to trade for the BX2200 (cat. 1). The 3 pt frame on the tiller will hitch up to the BX fine, the problem lies in the pto. On the BX as on most other tractors, the "male" part of the pto is on the tractor and the pto shaft of the implement has the "female" end. On his tiller and tractor it is the opposite. Female on tractor and male on pto shaft. The pto shaft on this tiller is not the conventional "lemon shaped" sliding shaft, it is square.

Does anyone know if pto shaft ends are available with a female end/square shaft so that I could use his tiller on the BX, or am I looking at a trip to the local welding shop?

My 445 had a standard 540 RPM PTO with a male PTO stub that was removable. Is the PTO stub simply locked into the tiller PTO shaft instead of into the tractor's PTO? That is, can't you simply remove the male stub from the PTO shaft and hook it right up to the male stub on the BX? Do you know the brand and model of the tiller?

Thanks bigpete! I'll have to check that out. If that's the case that will be great. I just looked at it from across his shed and didn't have time to inspect it closely. The tiller is a JD brand tiller with the number 455 on it.

No problem. Do you mean "450" tiller? That tiller is still available and would be a good fit for your machine. JD Parts Online shows a pretty standard looking PTO shaft and clutch for a 450 tiller

Too bad you don't live near me.I have just the opposite problem. My 450 tiller is setup for the standard pto.It would fit right on the Kubota, but needs a spline to fit the 455 that will be powering it.All we would have to do is trade drive shafts!

I have the same tiller on my 445 Cat 0. Two years ago I decided I wanted to use it on my 4010 Cat 1. Three point hook up was no problem since the tiller is set up with both size mounting pins. However, the PTO is in fact male from the tiller to female on the tractor.

I contacted Deere dealer for new shaft. About $250.00. Plus, I would have to unbolt the original shaft and replace it with the new shaft. This would mean changing from the 4010 back to the 445 would be cumbersome.

Went to TSC and talked with a sales rep who asked me what I wanted, I explained it to him and was told "if it's a Deere shaft, I'm not going to have anything to match!"

End of story; looked and looked and researched, bought a 3 foot section of shaft, bought a female shaft end and the appropriate size joint.

Took it all home and put it together. Hooked up the tiller to the 4010, measured what I needed for the pto hook up and cut the extra off the new shaft.

The whole thing cost $78.00 and I am still able to use the tiller on either tractor without bolting and unbolting shafts
