Rotary Cutter rotary cutter vs brush/ trees

considering purchase of rotary cutter. looking at landpride 15 series. however, looking at specs, 15 series is rated for "grass", whereas 25 series is rated "2 inch". how durable is the 15 series going to be in the real world? purpose of rotary cutter is to cut heavier stuff than grass!! will i be disappointed in 15 series?

Seems the mfg. is letting you know what they made the 15 for and the 25. If you want to mow 2", then buy the 25. If you want to just mow grass, then the 15. Is there a different answer you are looking for?

I've got the Landpride 1560 (15 series, 60 inch) and have got about 20 hours of cutting grass, weeds and brush up to 2" with it. The two inch brush gets ripped up and chewed on, but left in large pieces that I have to go back and pick up. Brush any smaller...1 1/2" gets cut up just about like grass.

Large stumps, rocks will break the shear bolt (mine came with only this, not a slip clutch), but I've gotten a lot better at spotting these obstacles. The deck etc seem to be holding up fine...a couple of slight dents in the upper deck, but so small you have to be in the right light to see them. i.e the 1560 seems to be plenty heavy duty so far.

But I can't compare with the 25 series. I do know that the tractor will lug down if I go over a really large group of bushes with the 1560. I supect this has more to do with the size of the tractor than the cutter (I am on a 35 HP New Holland). Others may know more.

If you get the 25 series, I'd like to hear how it works.

I have the Landpride RCR1548, and my manual says "designed to cut grass and brush 1" maximum diameter". I have cut larger brush on occassion with no problems, but would not recommend 2" stuff as a steady diet.

I read you Bio, if you are indeed getting a B2910, I don't think you should get the 25 series. It is probably too heavy for you to use on a regular basis with a "light" tractor. If you have only a few 2" and greater trees, the 15 series will probably be fine. If you have a bunch of 2" and greater trees to whack, you might want to rent a larger tractor and cutter to clear them out. Once clear, your tractor will keep them in line from then on with no problem using the 15 series cutter.

It might be possible to get a "demo" from your dealer on a larger tractor to do the clearing for free as part of your purchase. It couldn't hurt to ask...
