Re: Finishing mower leaves 1/4\" uncut grass

( I saw this post a few days back. I just picked up a 6 foot KK mower, rear discharge, and on reading the manual, it says on page 8 that you have to go slow around corners otherwise it will leave a strip uncut. Sounds as if all you need do is slow up some on the bends. . . )

I have a King Kutter 6' (side discharge) rear finish mower.
It has never left uncut strips and I'm always in a hurry to get the mowing done.
Maybe the blade tips are rounded off or a spindle bearing going bad ??

DK35vince, is there any way when you have your mower lifted to measure the distance between the blades when they are closest together? It would interest me greatly. You may have to do a little bit of pulling/pushing on the blades to get them close. Be carefull if you decide to do it!
The spindles do seem tight with no bearing play and the ends of the blades aren't rounded off. Thanks.

Ben,
I will be mowing the lawn sometime tommorrow. I will try to remember to measure while the mower is attached. My memory is awfull, but I will try to remember..

Ben,
The gap between the blades on my KK mower look to be around 1/2".
I also tryed to pay attention if it left any 1/4" strips when I mowed today.
I did notice it a few of times. Once when making a quick turn at the end of a pass, and a couple times on a hump in the yard where the mower would be leaning one way, go over the hump and be leaning the other way. ( the area where the mower was flip/floping to lean one way then the other is where I did see a slight uncut strip).
Never really noticed it before.
Thanks a lot for bringing that to my attention so it can bother me now, when I had never really noticed it before /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
