RE: rollers

I'm looking for a roller to compact my driveway,'gravel base'. Does anyone know of a company that makes one? I've contacted several companies about their lawn rollers and they won't warrant their products for this purpose.

You want to buy one?!?! Those puppies are expensive! We've used one on our drive, and just rent it for the day. The rental company drops it off in the morning; we use it all day; they pick it up the next. THey charge us for drop off/pick up, plus hours on the hour meter.

GlueGuy my last post was a little unclear. I'm not talking about a big machine. I'm asking about a pull-behind roller like a lawn roller, but lawn rollers are to lite. I need something heavier.

Would you be looking for a cultipacker? They're large(mine's about 12')and are quite heavy.I see them for sale locally all the time in sales papers for a couple hundred $. It works Great on driveways. Check the local papers listing used farm equipment.

I had posted a similar question a couple of months ago, and yes, Von did construct one out of an old water heater. His is perfect for the job. I have been told that you can sometimes can find homemade 3ph rollers at auctions. I haven't been to an auction since that post, but will be going to one later this month, hopefully with John Miller, and hope to find one there.

Hey,... my ears are ringing!.. Yes I used an old water storage tank that is 2' x 5' and when filled weighs about 1400 lbs. I have attached a photo.

Looks pretty simple to make and i'd say cheaper than buying one. Thanks for the idea.
