Chalkley Cup revisited (don\'t kill me!)

I read the entire post today. WHEW! I read some of the post earlier this year. Too bad the 2000 pics are unavailable. Anyway, my mom asks what I want for my birthday. Jokingly, I say a 52-once cup from 7-11. Guess what I got? Being a PC repair guy by trade, I'm tearing apart hard drives tonight!

Anyway, for the revisit... my mom calls me at work today and says she has something big she's gonna drop off at my work for me. Mom and dad went to South Dakota to see family this weekend. Guess what she brought back for me? A super Chalkey Cup wann-be! A full 64-ounces! It came from some mom and pop filling station. Looks to be the same quality as 7-11's cup.

Do you think 3 magnets will be strong enough? (just joking)

Also, if anyone has not seen it, Harv's take on the cup is here: http://www.fieldlines.com/other/chalkley.html

Re: Chalkley Cup revisited (don\'t kill me!)

John, I can't believe how long it took me too figure out what the heck Mark was dragging behind his tractor in his signature. After I figured out it was an extreme gulp, I just knew he was a worker. I have thought of various scenarios involving a Maximum Extreme Ultra Gargantuion Super Galactic Maximum Utmost drink holder, problem is, I don't have a loader, so I killed it. I think 2 of the super utmost magnets from a super duper hard drive will work, but don't hit hard bumps, for insurance, you will be better with 3. Rat...

Re: Chalkley Cup revisited (don\'t kill me!)

With a cup that size, it's not the magnets you need to worry about -- it's the weight distribution on your tractor. I keep a loaded toolbox on one fender and a Chalkley Cup on the other. I never go thirsty, and I have great traction! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

64 ounces, eh? Hmmm... if I didn't already have two Chalkley Cups already made up, I might just start looking for that mom-and-pop shop. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Re: Chalkley Cup revisited (don\'t kill me!)

John, be extreeeemly careful with that 64oz cup, or the attached photo could be an example of what happens. My understanding is this guy just filled his chalkley cup and slipped two wheels into a slight rut....not a pretty sight.

Re: Chalkley Cup revisited (don\'t kill me!)

Hey guys, there is another solution....

I cant't remember where I saw this suggestion, but here it goes...

Go to a marine supply store or K-Mart and buy a cup holder on a gimbal. Cost's about $8. Mount it in a convenient spot an it swings with the motion of your tractor. Mine came with a drink wrap or you can remove it and put in a cup with a handle. No digital camera to show you the mounting.

Re: Chalkley Cup revisited (don\'t kill me!)

Here's ya an idea for a super drink setup. you would need:
1 - 2.5 gallon corneilious soda keg
1 - small 12v low pressure air pump
1 - drink squeeze tube from a "camelback hydration system"
1 - fabricated mount for keg; maybe a sized down pedestal like they use for the igloo coolers on construction trucks

The 2.5g "corny" keg is refillable. It is availabe at most home brew stores. Mount the "corny keg" on a pedestal, where it is removable for cleaning and filling. mount a small 12v air pump, regulated to 4-5psi, on the tractor. Run an air line to the input of the "corny keg". Run a fluid line, of clear food grade plastic that is available at homebrew stores, up near the operator. Connect the "bite valve" from a Camelbak to the end of the house.

Fill keg. Engage pump. Fluid should reach the bite valve. Bite the bite valve. Fluid should reach you!

A clean receptacle for holding the bite valve would be good, to keep everything clean before you sip

Depending on your application, these small corny kegs are available in 2.5, 5, and 10 gallon. A standard Sanky keg, with correct fittings could be substituted, in 7.5 or 15 gallon.

Re: Chalkley Cup revisited (don\'t kill me!)

And so it begins again...

Actually, my original cup is still working just fine, and it only has one magnet, as you can see from the attached pic.

Also, in addition to the caveats mentioned by others regarding weight distribution, etc (I have my Michelin's XM27's on the rear pumped up to 9 psi on the left and 10 psi on the right to compensate), you need to be prepared for a loss in productivity if you work in public places. I've never yet been on a job where there were other workers, bystanders, or passersby when I wasn't stopped at least once to answer the question "How do you get that cup to stay on the fender?"

Terry
Give this thread a look Definitely not a Chalkley cup Holder . I’ve had it on since June without any problems./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I like Marks cup./w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif But do not have the time to keep it filled or my bladder empty/w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif. Tried the gimbal mount type on my old B7100HST it was always spilling my drinks before it broke./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Re: Chalkley Cup revisited (don\'t kill me!)

Oh... didn't relize that some problems may occur. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Haven't really put mine to the test. My reasoning is that if a boat mount can handle it, then my tractor should....

Just have to see what happens.... I guess there's no easy solution.

If you are going to get your water supply all plumbed in, why not plumb in the sewer as well? Get the Stadium Pal! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
