hobbyfarm,
I will second what BobG mentioned about a quality belt. After the OEM belt broke on my finish mower, I purchased a Gates. It was around $40 if I remember right. At the beginning of mowing season this year, I waited way too long before the first cut. Several times the grass was so thick that I did not notice the slipping until that nice rubber smell hit me. I turned around and smoke was actually coming from under the belt cover. The belt is now missing several chunks but it is still going. Buy a good quality belt.
