Hello,

I'd like to know if implements which ask the pto shaft to run at a significant angle to the axis of the tractor do any harm to the tractor's pto?

Specifically, I'm wondering about the Tajfun model 30 skidding winch on a John Deere 950. I'm guessing the pto shaft would be 24"- 28" long and run at close to a 45 degree angle.

Unlike the Farmi and Fransgard winches whose pto hookups are centered, the Tajfun has the pto hookup side by side with, I believe, the drum. Need I be concerned with this?
Thanks.

Xtenon,
I have a Tajfun winch and while the hook up is off set it is no where near 45 degrees. You have the pto shaft length right on, mine is 28" on a Kubota L2250. I have had mine for nearly a year and it has seen lots of use and no pto problems at all.
The Tajfun is a great winch and comes with more and larger cable than the Farmi as standard equipment. That being said the Farmi is also a high quality winch and you can't go with either one.
I do not know anything about the Fransgard.
Good Luck
Dave

Dave,

OK, I won't let the Tajfun's PTO deter me. It does seem to be alot of tool for the money. Thank you.

One thing about the Tajfun is that it has a friction brake, which apparently is safer than the mechanical brake on my Fransgard. Check out this review in "Sawmill Magazine" if you want to read more about the Tajfun.
