Hi, I'm thinking about buying a finish mower made by King Kutter and is this a good product or not? It will also be a side discharge type.

Model FM-60

Thanks, Terry

Not sure about the mower but the bush hog on the same link is exactly like my 4 footer that was purchased at Tractor Supply. So if you decide on one you might look there for a possible better price.

You might want to reconsider side discharge. Mot of the postings I've seen seem to prefer rear discharge for two principal reasons - you can cut clockwise or anticlockwise as you prefer and it is less prone to blocking.

I have used a KK finish mower now for several years and am pleased with the results. There are certainly more expensive mowers available but I can't tell you if they do a better job of manicuring your lawn.

Just going to give you some "real world" experience about finishing mowers and you can take it as your please...

KK makes lower line finishing mowers. They won't hold up as well as a BushHog, Woods, etc. To change the belt on a KK model you have to take the whole gear box off, not so on a BushHog. I stock 6 blade spindles for KK finishing mowers and during the busy season I usually sell about 4 a month. I stock 1 spindle for BushHog finishing mowers and I'll be lucky to sell 2 a year. BushHog (or any other top teir brand) tend to cut better than the KK's (or any other less expensive brand). BushHog has a 2 year warranty, KK has 1 year. We have sold both for years and there is no question which one I feel more confident selling...

The whole rear discharge / side discharge thing is up to you. I like the side discharge units because they cut the grass up finer, but side discharge mowers are nice if your cutting around flower bed / pine straw bed, etc. Plus rear discharge mowers lay the grass back down so the nutrients go back into the soil. Good luck with your purchase, whatever you decide to do!

I have one of the KK finish mowers you are looking at. I abuse the heck out of it and it holds up. I get a finely manicured lawn. I believe some other manufacturers make a better mower, but I could not justify the price. I have used this mower now for 8 years and it works fine, I guess if I needed to purchase another mower, I would have to look at my positive experience and purchase another KK.

With our KK mower to change a belt you simply remove 2 bolts, then the gearbox swings up out of the way so changing a belt is easy. I always keep a spare in the pole barn so that when one finally goes my mowing is not interrupted.
