I have a JD 4410 and need a rear landscape blade and want to get the biggest one that I can. The tractor is 4WD and 35hp. The dirt is fairly heavy soil that will be moved around.
What do you guys think?
Thanks

Probably limited to the max. for Cat I 3pt. and that might differ by mfg.
The bigger they are, the heavier they will have to be, and the further back from the tractor they will need to be to turn the blade 180°. The further back, the lighter the front end will get.

A particular brand you are looking at?

2 feet bigger than the tractor width. So when you swivel it it still covers the tracks. Bigger will do less work (getting hung up easily) and feel clumsy. My 2 cents worth anyway.

Not wanting to hijack the thread.. but I'm also in the market for a box blade and rear blade for my big tractors.

Currently have a set of cat 1 implements sized around 28-35 hp tractors... but now need the blades that I can use between my two larger tractors.

tractor 1 is about 87 db hp, ~ 6600# and just over 7' wide. Tractor 2 is 60 db hp, 5800# and 76" wide.

I'm only getting 1 set of 'large implements.. so i need to size them for cat 2.. and sized so that the 60db hp tractor can use them effectively.

Thanks

Wide enough to cover your tracks when angled, but not so wide that you can't spin it 360 deg. without hitting a tire.

I picked up this blade this summer. It was new-never used-but must have been sitting out for years. I purchased it from an old time dealer. He has to be approx. 80, and very sharp in the head. Has acres of "stuff". I located it by phone and had to chuckle at his reply, when I asked ""who made it?". He said in a more than slightly aggrevated voice. "I don't know, what does it matter? It is rugged and you won"t be able to damage it with your 65 hp tractor." He doesn't like to waste time on trivial things. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There is no brand name on it. Sticker on front is from a epuipment reseller that he must have got it from.

Well, he was right. It is very rugged. The turning plates are 3/4" thick. the blade is 1/2", and reinforced quite a lot on the back side.

More pics below.

My rears are about 7' wide at present. The blade is 8'. Worked real well. Can turn it 360.

This is a ditch that was made with the blade. One pass and there was a 16" -18" deep ditch. The pic shows it after I smoothed it out with the loader bucket.

I also was looking for a BB. However I discovered that this blade will suffice for me.

It is quite heavy, so...I have been visualizing some ripper type teeth attached to the bottom of blade. Also, a bar of some sort with RR spikes welded on.

As you can see by the pic., it is also a "safety" device in case you should happen to pop a wheelie.
