Has anyone seen a windrowing root rake that looks like a hay rake on steroids? I saw one recently and it does a great job. The one I saw was being pulled by at least a 60hp logging rig. I was hoping to find one I could handle with my JD4700. I also was hoping to find some information on the net but no luck yet.
Thanks,

That sounds exactly what I'm talking about! Know of any manufacturers? I'm working on 8 acres of clearcut. Trying to find some help in an attachment. Got lots of roots and sticks to rake up.
Thanks,

This is the only thing I know of as a root-rake.

Stick one of these on the front of a dozer or large tractor and they rip up the soil and take out the root-mat and any stump remains. You can also get them for bigger jobs - like tearing out old railroad beds and the like ...

For only 8 acres you're probably best off hiring in a dozer with one of these on. I have seen 6' root rakes advertised for less than $2000 - you just need a lot of horse-power and traction to use them.

I had a D9 with a v-blade come in an shear everything off so there are still stumps under the surface. I was hoping to find some kind of rake that would pass over the stumps.
Thanks,

Hi ya
well that is another idea hire a dozer or digger with root rake ..to be point blank i'd go for a digger with root rake ya find less dirt in windrows and could hook out stumps if sticking up too much also can fill holes ,flatern banks etc etc ..i think this one may come down to cost ie root rake may cost $?????? hire digger may cost$?????? getting someone in to do it $?????? i'm keeping in mind that this maybe a oneoff job .if i was going to be useing a bit of gear each year and noone had what i wanted to hire i'd have to buy but in a one off case sometimes nomatter how hard we want to do it our selfs cost does come into it ...the only other thing i could think of that may do the same kind of thing is a stone rake pto or hydro driven i have seen one made in canada over here one of the guys from canada may know if it would work
