Okay here goes probably a really stupid question? I am new to all of this, all I have ever used on a tractor is the mower and a FEL.

1. What does the box blade do? Whats tasks can one hope to accomplish with it?

2. And the rear blade?

3. And If I understand right can't you back blade with the bucket? or is it just not as effective?

I am looking to maintain 500+ feet of sloped gravel driveway, clear all the brush from what I hope will be pasture someday, disk up the soon to be pasture and plant good grass to turn a few cattle out on.

4. What tool would be most effective for me? It sounds like the box blade might be right? I am also going to put a tooth bar on my bucket?

Thank you all for the help, I am sure there will be many more questions I will have, I have found this forum very informative.

If you are picking just one, go with the boxblade. It can rip up the dirt/brush and then can level it. It will take alot of practice.

Box blade for sure.

You can back up with it to some extend to use it as a bulldozer too. Handy for filling in stump holes.

The toothbar will let you pop stubborn roots and stumps.

1. The box blade can dig (using the scarifiers), move dirt as you dig by dragging it in the box, level it by getting the box full and then slightly raising it to gradually drop the dirt. You can use it to level a pad if you wanted to build a pole barn for example.
2. The rear blade is good for maintaining an established drive. By angling the blade toward the center of the drive, you can move the gravel back toward the center and maintain the crown. You can't move dirt very well as it will fall out the ends as it builds up.
3. You can do some backbladeing with the FEL. I use the FEL and box blade together to do leveling and dirt moving.
4. This depends on your primary use. For general maintenance on the long drive, I think the rear blade would be better if you are trying to maintain a crown. And would probably be faster for general maintenance of it. But the box blade would be better for most other uses if it involves moving dirt or leveling hard pack.
5. Get both. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
