MY TURN TO SHARE ATTACHMENTS

Thanks for sharing- looks like you did a great job. As a newbie, I'm a little anxious that despite my research I may have purchased an expensive piece of equipment that will not do what I need to do. Your post is reassuring and helpful. Ordering a Markham tooth bar is the first thing on my to do list for the new year!

All you guys have to keep rubbing it in how good that toothbar looks and works and fits etc... Mine still has not come, I was hoping for an early x-mas present... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nice job on the install! A word of caution though, in the first picture you posted it looks as though the center tooth of your toothbar might be out to get you /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif .

"Mine still has not come, I was hoping for an early x-mas present"

As was I. The bugger shipped and I have been tracking it to Indiana. It seems to have fallen into a black hole since it hasn't left there for a few days now. Did some TBNer in IN steal my toothbar? It might have something to do with the holiday me thinks.

Just curious: In what conditions are you digging ? I need a little advice on these toothbars.

Does a toothbar only improve digging ease in clay or loam soils, or also in my Dutch conditions of sandy soils, free of any rubble and roots ?
How does it compare, for example digging with a 2 meter bucket with toothbar compares to digging a 1,5 meter bucket without toothbar ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If a toothbar could make digging a lot easier, i need one too, but if the difference is little, i dont want one on my bucket when i am scooping up manure from the bunk silo... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Let's see...best I can remember the soil there can be very compacted until it is loosened up. (I lived in Nymegen and Rotterdam when I was a kid before immigrating in 1957 and have never been back.)

So "digging" with the toothbar will be far better than without one. The 2 meter bucket with toothbar will dig better in your soil than the 2 or 1.5 meter bucket without....That is for real digging and not just "scooping" as you say. I noticed you don't have to loosen up the soil first (like ripping with my boxblade) to cut a section of dirt as I said in one of the earlier posts.

If the soil has already been loosened up and you are just scooping it up, it would be about the same. Although I have found the toothbar to "slide" into the soil easier especially if there are a few rocks or clumps in that instance as well. The most significant improvement I noticed besides "digging" is the ability to get some of those larger rocks into the bucket MUCH easier than without one.

Now that it is installed on my bucket, I doubt I'll ever take it off again. It becomes much easier to scrape up shrubs and loose debris than before.

Thanks for the info !!

My boss has plenty of stainless steel around, i can cut some strips on the laser cutting machine... Or maybe just get some wear resistant flatbar...

On my 2 meter bucket, i guess i'm going to need a tooth every 25 cm/ 10 inches?

Every 25 cm/10 inches or so should be correct. Attached is an example of a toothbar with 5 teeth for a 54 inch bucket.

Regarding manufacture, you might want to look at purchasing some of the teeth and just welding them yourself to a bar of steel. I'm sure someone in Europe manufactures teeth. You could certainly buy them from the US though shipping would be expensive.
