Re: Rear 84\" offset scrape blade-which one to buy?

( I had to return the heavy duty Woods blade I purchased with my L4330. With this particular Woods model, I had to use most of my 3ph lift to raise the tractor end of that beam to horizontal. There was not much stoke left to raise the whole implement. Might be something to watch out for, especially on the Cat 1/Cat 2 combos.

John,
Which model of Woods blade was this, and what did you end up with for a replacement?

Thanks

Re: Rear 84\" offset scrape blade-which one to buy?

I think it was the Woods HBL-84-2 that I returned. Replaced it with the Buhler C84SS, link attached. I haven't tried the new one yet but it looks like it will work ok and at only $450 and no freight charge, it seemed like a good buy, although the blade doesn't tilt up and down like the woods.

After looking at the Woods website, a good indicator of this problem may simply be the mold board height. Their strictly cat 1 uses 14 inch whereas the cat1/2 uses 18 inch.

For snow removal, that extra moldboard height would be just the ticket! That's one reason I chose the HBL-84-2

Re: Rear 84\" offset scrape blade-which one to buy?

Happy new year, Jon! I have the Midwest HD 84" blade you are looking at and have found it to be a well-made, solid scraper. Your 4330 will handle it just fine.

I find the box blade gets more use than the scraper around my place since we seem to have more dirt moving/leveling chores where the box works best, but for maintaining the road, moving snow, and opening ditches, the HD, offset, tilting scraper blade is hard to beat.

Whether you need the fancy hydraulic type or not depends on how much you will be using it. For the occasional times when I need the scraper, I don't mind making the adjustments manually.

As for which manufacturer, Midwest is a newer company and doesn't have the brand name reputation of some of others, at least not yet, so they make a good product and tend to price very competitively. You probably can't go wrong with any of the ones you mentioned, however.

Thanks for your information. Do you know if Midwest has a web site? I cannot seem to find one. Thanks, Dan

Re: Rear 84\" offset scrape blade-which one to buy?

I have a Woods HBL-84-2 on my Cub Cadet 7260. I bought it 3 years ago. It has worked out real well for me. I had a light duty 7 footer that came with my tractor, and I folded it up beyond repair in my 2nd winter with it. I have not been able to hurt this Woods blade yet, and I plow a quarter mile gravel drive. Also, as Boondox mentioned, the extra mold board height, as compared to some of the less expensive blades, makes a big difference when plowing snow.

Is this a front mounted blade?

Nope, it's a very heavy duty rear blade.

Thanks. I will investigate further. Do you have any problem with the snow accumulating into the rear wheels if you are going forward?

Re: Rear 84\" offset scrape blade-which one to buy?

I have a Kubota GL3830 HST and am shopping for a blade. Like others, I want to get as much blade as my tractor can pull. I will be using it for snow and moving dirt, really want one with offset capability, and like the idea of being able to upgrade later to hydraulic angle capability. I am also liking the tilt option for crowning roads, but know nothing about doing that. Any ideas for the best blade option? I only want to have to buy this once. I won't be moving dirt all the time, but am moving to a new 28 acre unimproved lot and will be needing to establish roads, level for an outbuilding, do landscaping, etc. Any and all insight appreciated.
