Hi,
does anybody have any ideas of what (and where I could obtain) types of flexible rubber like material I could use as a blade edge for my grader blade for plowingmy blacktop driveway?
I have heard of old conveyor belts, but I have no idea where to find something like that?
Does anyone have any Ideas of something I could use?
Thanks
Rick

I believe I read awhile back that some one bought a horse mat from Tractor Supply and used that on his blade...

There's a snow plow called "Snowsport" made for residential use that utilizes a rubber edge. I think they sell replacement edges for about $42. If memory serves me well it's 1 inch thick and 6 inches tall and maybe 6 or 7 feet long.

For a BX the TSC horse mat should work.
If you want something heavier. Try this Place. Click Here The rubber edge is under cutting edges at bottom of page. I live near the place and did not need to pay shipping.

Have you considered using Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene? Awesome abrasion resistance! There are some huge national plastic outfits that are located in most major metro areas and are online. I am drawing a "blank" though at this time.

In the world of plastics, there are some that take abrasive to the bank. I made a bearing out of one yesterday, in conjunction with an 80 something year old retired tool and diemaker. I purchased his machines and he comes by from time to time with small projects. He was sharp as a tack when i first started learning from him, but his memory is starting to go. A shame to see the loss of such vast knowledge.
If I knew more about snow and what it takes to move it, I might offer a few suggestions, but I think I am going to have to leave you out in the cold.

Rick, I live about 45 minutes away from you. If you want to take a ride, I will gladly give you some pieces of rubber horse mat. I will have to measure them but they are maybe 6-8 inches wide and 6' long.

Due to standard post spacing constraints, my 12x12 horse stalls are actually around 11.5x11.5 feet. The 4x6 foot mats were cut to fit and being a scrounger, I kept the pieces.

PM me if you are interested.

HI everyone -
Brian - Thanks for the offfer - Unfortunatley, I already picked up a mnat at TSC on Friday. I cut a section 7.5 inches off and drilled holes every 8" across my blade, about 4 inches from the edge. I would have liked to drill closer, but I didn;t want to drill throught the moldboard.

I used 2" 1/4 bolts and washers and attached the horsemat with 1" hanging off the edge. (attached on the front for the blade).
it looks awesome - I gave it a twirl with yesterdays light snow and I think it works, except that if I lower the blade all the way the Horsemat curls forward and the blades sits on the ground.
I might have to find some sort of steel band and wrap it around the mat and blade about an inch from the edge to try to keep the rubber mat tight to the blade.

Brian-Thank you again for the offer. The mat actually came in handy - I can put the rest of the horsemat in the dog kennel to allow them a bit of softness and insulation under their bedding.
