I am retired now and the garden keeps getting larger so I have decided to get a tiller for my M5700.I need a 6 footer to cover the tire tracks unless there is an offset type.I have been looking at the ccm and king kutter on the net thus far.I won't be tilling hard ground as I have a 3 bottom plow and disc harrow etc..My soil is however a little rocky with heavy clay content, this is the reason for a tiller,to prepare the seed bed for planting.I would like a tiller that will last but this is for a hobby type use period so I don't want to go overboard either.if any of you have experience with the ccm or kingkutter tiller or any other brand, any helpful tips would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Herb,

I debated the same choice last spring, and ended up getting the 6' King Kutter at TSC, mainly because it was cheaper considering the cost of shipping on the CCM. I used it to till my garden last spring and was very happy with it. My soil is a bit heavy but not rocky. The KK seems to be heavy enough to handle heavier soils. There are likely several threads on this topic if you search this forum, and my impression was that the KK was highly recommended by those who have one.

Herb, I was all set to buy a CCM tiller from Mark Carter until I stumbled across a deal that I simply could not pass up on a LandPride that offered offset for a whopping bargain price. But had I not done that, I would have chosen the CCM tiller over most any other brand for my 'hobby' needs. I've had other dealing with Mark and he is a great guy to deal with, but beyond that, he is very helpful with advice and making sure you get the right thing for your needs. One time he talked me out of buying from him. Another time he sold me exactly what I needed and made sure it would work with my tractor before selling it to me.

His tillers seem to be very well built, his prices are very reasonable, and while some other brands of tiller may cost less, I think his price is worth the cost given how he stands behind his stuff. JMHO

Herb, why not just let the tiller do all of the work. No need to plow first. I have my dads' Howard rotavator, it's over 35 yrs old and I just put in some new blades. the others were wore down. They looked almost like a hand sickle they were so thin. I understand your comment about not over buying but it never fails when i buy "cheap" it's always breaking. when i buy "expensive" it wears well. Something has to be said for longevity. Here is the web site http://www.howardrotavator.com/. just click dealers and then your state. I dealt with Guy in IL. He also has a ton of used equipment that he stands behind. I've never known anyone to be unhappy with them.
Hope this Helps,
chuck

I've got a 6' King Kutter with a bunch of hours on it. During it's lifetime, I've used it and abused it. Never a sign of weakness. Where I live, you don't have to hunt for rock. They find you. We have limestone out-croppings everywhere. I've hit more rocks than I care to think about. No problems. I've always used it behind a 60 HP tractor.

I sure wouldn't fault anyone for buying what they percieve to be a "better" tiller. (read MORE EXPENSIVE) However, I don't see the need myself.

We have many satisfied TBN customers that purchased our "First Choice" roto tiller. All our machines are offset capable and we would be glad to figure total cost with shipping on your request.--Ken Sweet

i bought a kk from tsc last year: strickly because of price: and am very happy with it: i did find out later, that they where suppose to give me the fluid for the gearbox and transmission to go with it, which would have made it even a little cheaper, but i had already installed synthetic gear lube.

Thanks everyone for your replys and info as I am still leaning towards either the kk or ccm.I know kk has a pretty good dealer network how about ccm ??? just in case you need parts or new tines etc..Is there any place where you can get retail pricing on the kk equipment on the net??
