Log splitter- I think I need one. I could use any recommendations or helpful information. Would like to use the remotes on my tractor to run a log splitter that will get moderate use on 6"-12" Mesquite logs. Question: If I get 10GPM from my system how does this effect cycle time. Will it just run slower or not cut at all?

The low flow rate will make it slower but the actual force will depend only on hydraulic pressure and the size of the ram. A typical log splitter pump with its own engine uses 12 gpm or so.

I use a log splitter on my Long Landtrac 360 which has a flow of about 9gpm. Cycle times are not as quick as my neighbors tow behind splitter, but it splits great. The only time I have had trouble is with some really knotty oak and locust. I had to split smaller chunks from the side of the log instead of splitting it right in the center.
