Will a 33Hp tractor (Massey 1533 gear tranny) handle a 6ft. tiller? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Is that engine or pto hp? If it is engine, and your pto hp is in the mid to upper 20s, it sounds like its probably workable, but marginal. Also significant; the soil conditions that you will be using it in. I think that for breaking up hard, firm soil (clay rather than sandy) you need proportionally greater hp.

You might want to check out the pto hp recs for the Tillers on CCM's site to get a feel for what you will need. I don't think that I'd want to be a the very bottom of the suggested range unless I was going to be working pretty loose soil.

Hope this helps.

I think if the ground is that hard running a subsoiler, middle buster or field cultivator would make the work easier. I've seen a couple videos on the net of these tillers in hard ground, looks like a pretty rough beating. Sandy loam would be a breeze.

I used a 6' tiller on a 32 HP tractor for a couple seasons. At least it WAS 32 HP when it was built, some 40-sumpthin years earlier. It was on my old MAssey Ferguson 50. Gas engine that had over 10,000 hours on it too. Handled the chore just fine. Trick is to go slow, take shallow cuts if you're in hard ground, and don't try to till rocks. (I did, and just about bounced the ol' Massey off the ground a few times)

I use it routinely on a 38 HP MF 150 nowdays.

I use a 66" rototiller with a tractor that is rated at 24.5 HP at the PTO.
The soil in N. Oregon is sandy loam. I also suspect the PTO HP is rated very conservatively on the L3010.
Bottom line is that I have no problems at all running an attachment of that size. I suspect the type of soil is very important and of course that varies from place to place.
