This company being located in Latrobe Pa. probably gets a price break on steel from one of the steel plants located in that area. Does any one know the weight of the 6' model? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I ordered the 72" version of the root grapple today. Feedback from some of the other purchasers of this root grapple indicated that the quality was excellent or was much better than expected. I should pick up the grapple soon and I will post some additional info about it once I get it home. I still have to install a rear remote to control the grapple arm, but for my limited needs, using a rear remote for control should be cost effective.

[I ordered the 72" version of the root grapple today]

I picked up the 72" grapple today, it looks to be worth what I paid, although you can tell that the grapple is hand made with hand cut steel because you can see some inconsistencies where a few individual pieces of steel do not line up perfectly and a few pieces of steel are not cut exactly the same size. The photo used in the ebay ad is probably a photo of someone's best effort in making this grapple because my unit is not quite as pretty as the one in the photo. However, overall the unit appears to be well made. I am not sure what type of steel is used but the grapple is fairly heavy, and the hydraulic cylinder and hoses appear to be of good quality. I would estimate the weight to be around 500-600 pounds. I don't know if I would want to rely on this grapple to make my living, but it will probably fulfill my needs and the needs of most land owners who are clearing brush and trees from their property. Considering that this unit is priced about 1k less than the grapple my dealer was trying to sell me, I think it is a fairly good deal.

I looked at those, also at the rock/root grapple on the Ebay name -24-7 farm equipment, AKA Iowa farm equipment. From the looks if you are sifting and grubbing rocks the root grapple from latrobe is too light. But for brush seems perfect. The rock grapple from Iowa has three differrent tine diameters, the tines are hardend round steel, and the large/wide are so heavy that even with 2500# lifting available on the FEL frame it gives me pause. I don't think I should attach a link but you can google Iowa fam equipment in moscow Iowa. I just did looking did not buy - yet.

There is one called The Thumb on ebay. It's only 18 inches wide at the end, uses one cylinder. looks well built. His web site is www.greens-machine.com. It is very reasonably priced but beyond that don't know much about it.

Jim, anxiously awaiting more info. How about the hookup to your QA? Pretty close? I was looking at a bucket top unit but this entire attachment is cheaper.

I am seriously considering ordering 2 of the 48-inch grapples from HelixDistrib (Latrobe) to customize for a couple of Kioti CK30s. They sell them without the skidsteer plate so I can make my own pin-on brackets. He says the 48-incher weighs 500#, which is 300# more than the CK30 bucket. Seems very reasonable. That's why I hesitate going wider.

[How about the hookup to your QA? Pretty close?]

Joe, the grapple hooked up to the QA without any problems. However, the attachment is little loose on the bottom because the QA pins on my tractor do not engage into the holes deep enough. It appears that there is too much space between the top of the skid steer plate and the bottom at the pin attachment holes. To fix this I going to have a welder install a 1/4 inch riser plate on top of the existing pin attachment holes to shorten the distance. The spacing on the skid steer plate on the grapple is around 16 1/2 inches. This may be standard spacing for skid steer applications and maybe my tractor's QA is off a little. I don't know what the standard spacing is because I am not familar with skid steer attachments. I sure someone else can add to the discussion and clarify the standard spacing on skid steer machines.
