I have the opportunity to by a used, 72" Alamo flail mower. I haven't inspected it yet, but I'm told it is about 6 years old, has been kept under a shed, is well maintained (i.e. all the bearings are OK) and had the blades replaced last season with heavy duty knives. A local municipality used it to clip a field in one of their parks.
I do not have the exact model, but I'm guessing it's comparable to the current Alamo "Super Heavy Duty Flail".
The asking price is $800.
Does that sound like a good deal?

I'm planning to go by their shop after work one day this week and inspect it. Aside from checking the overall condition of the metal and the drive line are there any flail specific things to look for?

Thanks for the input!

If the story is straight, that mower aught to be in great shape. They're designed to take a little abuse. Mowing sports fields isn't abuse.

Look for the obvious. leaky seals, excessive wear on ground "skids", slack in the drive line, and dents or gouges from the under-side (indicating hitting obsticals).

That's a good price if the mower is in good condition. I've been searching for a buy on one myself. SOunds like you might have found one.
