Just curious here...

I have a L1501 with slasher, and a ride-on mower which I do the neat bits around the house & trees etc.

This rideon is on the way out, and I am wondering if there is something similar I can tow behind the Kubota.

I hear you guys mentioning finish mowers etc.

Not having a mid PTO, these are obviously a rear attachment.

How easy are they to use around trees etc. The slasher is no good for this.

Cheers

I have a five foot finsh mower that attaches to the 3pt on the rear. I also have lots of trees and have no problem around the trees. You just learn how to mow and attach the grass growing around the trees. So buy one.

Yep, Neil, I use a 60" rear discharge finish mower on the 3-point. You can back it under trees and such. You have to remember, just as with your slasher, that if you turn right, it's going to swing out left, and vice versa. In other words, you just use it like you use your slasher, but it just gives a finer, smoother cut for lawn type grasses.

Aha !

Thanks guys

I wasnt't sure if they worked like a slasher or they pivotted.

I have planted lots of small trees, and the only neat way around them is using the rideon mower. Slasher takes forever to get around them.

But then again if I can use a 60' deck instead of the 40' deck on the rideon, I might still be ahead timewise.

Hopefully also cheaper than a new rideon $5000 Aus = $2500 US?

Cheers

Neil, I don't know what 3-point finish mowers sell for in your part of the world, and there are cheaper brands, but I paid $1,695 for my RDTH60 Bush Hog. They seem pretty expensive to me./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Just curious here.

A 4' slasher (bush hog) here is worth about $1000-$1500.

This would therefore be about $500-$750 American $.

Was yours that much ? - Scary !!

Neil, our prices vary quite a bit, depending on brand, quality, and whether the slasher is a light, medium, or heavy duty model. If I remember right, in '95, the light duty (Squealer series) 4' Bush Hog brand cost me $595 and in '99, they wanted $795 for the same thing in a 5' model. So instead, in '99 I paid $495 for an even lighter duty 5' Howse. I had stopped by a local John Deere dealership to price a 5' one with their name on it, and the salesman quoted $1,400 for it (and I had asked about the cheapest 5' one they could sell me).
