The Dipperstick retraction on my BH is slower by about 2.5 - 3 seconds than usual. I can hear the fluid rushing by the valve, but only on retraction. The valve moves as much as any of the others, it doesn't appear to be a linkage issue. I'm sure I'll have the dealer check it out, but any guesses? Maybe a bad valve, obstruction, or simple adjustment?

My first thought would be some sort of foreign material inside the valve that keeps flopping around, but that wouldn't explain why it only happens in one direction.

I have a BH75, so I'm interested in seeing what your problem is. Keep us informed. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I would say to double check all of the quick connectors. They may look like they are connected properly and not be. Anytime there is a hydraulic problem, that is the first thing that needs to be checked.

I'll let you know what happens the tractor goes to the shop on Monday to replace the dipperstick cylinder. Yes I managed to do what others have and bent the rod. Believe it or not, I managed to do this exactly one year after I took delivery on the BH, fortunately it's under warranty.

I bent mine, too, after only about 40 hours. Unfortunately, I never saw that it was bent until applying a load to it and BAM. Sounded like a rifle going off as it broke in half. Thankfully it was also under warranty. Your new cylinder will be noticeably beefier than the old one--I'm assuming your dealer will give you the next-larger size like my dealer did.

Before I even asked, the service manager indicated to me it would be the upgraded cylinder. It didn't break, does still function but does have a noticeable downward bend.
I have to say that I was doing some shallow trenching and when the dipperstick came in close, I was under a stout root.
Instead of repositioning the machine I just grabbed on with the bucket and pried hard. I was surprised that it really didn't take a whole lot of effort to cause this. Yes JerryG you advised me long ago not to dig with the rod extended! Guess I just had to find out for myself.

Sirs,

Would you be so kind as to detail what NOT to do to cause this dipperstick damage. Please do not worry about offending my knowledge, because I have none. I am taking delivery of a Rhino 85 for my L5030 and am new to BH's.

Thank you,

RFB

This is what I did.......tried to dig up an all too well anchored object too close to the back of the tractor. Rod was extended 90% out of the cylinder and with the force of the bucket pulling down on the boom the rod bent into the boom. That simple in my case. I probably repeated this procedure 4 or 5 times to get the object out when this occured.

Sir,

Not trying to be intentionally obtuse, but I am having dificulty picturing what it is you are referring to. You mentioned "not to dig with the rod extended", as well as being "too close to the back of the tractor".

Can you give me another shot at explaining this?

Thank you,

RFB
