Just got a King Kutter 72\" Tiller!

Well I did it. Bought a King Kutter 72" tiller at a local farm consignment auction. It was new still in the crate. Paid a little less than what they cost at the dealer.

Anyway got it unpacked and am getting ready for grass planting duty. I am pretty excited. The unit appears "to have it where it counts". I like the 6 tines per flange and the spiral pattern they make. The machine is also very heavy! So that should make for effiecent operation. As others have said the paint quality is awful. But hey...it cost at least $900.00 less than the nearest competior of equal strength! So I can't argue with that. Hopefully it will be a good investment. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif And with the money I saved...I'm having a set of quick attach forks shipped in! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Thanks to all for the advice on the tillers. I would have never bought a KK tiller without you guys recommending it.

Be sure to check oil/grease situation. You'll be doing the "dealer service" yourself. I doubt my KK tiller would even sratch the surface right now. 6 balmy degrees here yesterday. Today, we're having a minor heat wave. All the way to 22!

SOON!

Papa, I suppose you won't be entering any shows with that tiller /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ... I think you made out great, so the paint isn't that great , but you got a NEW tiller for a great price... Ya did good! There is a local guy near me that sells the KKII(gear drive) tillers they are beefy... Enjoy!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Just got a King Kutter 72\" Tiller!

There are many good tillers being sold in the USA market. Keep in mind that John Deere, New Holland, Kubota, Kioti, Massey, Woods, Bush Hog, Rhino and other noted domestic manufacturers do not make their own tillers. Does this mean that their tillers are off brands?

King Kutter manufactures functional tillers and implements that are predominantly sold by Fleet Stores like TSC, Rural King, ETC and also by auction yards like Lady & King (TN) and Green's(OH). Just where are their service departments? Just as their differences in Kubota's, JD's and Jinma's there are differences between CCM Tillers and King Kutter tillers. We can sell King Kutter tillers at or below any of the special prices posted on TBN, but we choose not to sell the KK tillers.

Here are some of the differences between KK and CCM tillers.
<ul type="square"> CCM tillers are powder painted.
Just ask KK owners as to the quality of their paint or the lack of paint.
The CCM MR130-49" tillers have a 60 HP Gear drive Transmission. The KK TG-48 has a 35 HP transmission.
CCM MR tillers have adjustable hitch blocks for offset capability and multiple size tractor adjustability. The KK tillers have a fixed pin hitch limiting it's tractor applications and the KK tillers do not offset. [/list]
CCM tillers have a one piece rigid stamped side gearbox cover which seals against the 8mm end plate frame. The KK has a two piece cover with two seals : one of seals is on the very outside of the cover- this cover is flat sheet metal that is not rigid and will not hold its shape over time and will leak gear oil continually.
CCM MR tillers have an inter-locking double metal shield with a steel hub protecting the tine rotor seals & bearings from winding up string, plastic or crops in such a manner to damage the seals or bearings. The KK has only a rubber oil seal pressed in a hub to protect the bearing.
It is not my intent to trash KK or its implements they have their place but when you asked the differences I am compelled to answer your questions.

Re: Just got a King Kutter 72\" Tiller!

I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. While there are differences, I think for the average person on this board it is hard to justify the extra cost of a *quality* tiller. Maybe if you made your living with it....
I priced one out last year from an advertiser on this board and the price was closer to a KK than I thought it would be, but then you add shipping and it becomes a sizeable chunk of change for something that gets used about once or twice a year.
Enjoy your forks, too!

Re: Just got a King Kutter 72\" Tiller!

I've had the same tiller for 6 years and easily have 60 hours on it. My only complaint, after a very busy year 1 I had to change out the tine hardware with new lock washers and locktite. Other than the loose tines 5 years ago this tiller has had -0- service. I have heavy soil with lots of flat rocks. Contrary to what another poster said, this tiller leaks no oil and the side case is dent free.

Re: Just got a King Kutter 72\" Tiller!

I have not seen KK tiller, but have seen their rotary cutter, etc. My comment on comparison of such low price and high price items with an example;

Yesterday, I needed to buy a pneumatic cylinder for one of my projects. I went to a shop and told a little about my project and asked him to give me a cylinder. My calculations were telling me my need was about 4-5 bar cylinder. Engineer of the shop was offering me a 7-8 bar cylinder. I asked why. He explained "it will be very strong."- "I am not so rich to pay extra for 2-3 bar I will never use", I replied.
So, if it does your job, no need to pay extra $900.

Re: Just got a King Kutter 72\" Tiller!

I also just purchased a 72" kingKutter tiller.Haven"t got it out of the crate yet, because it snowed a couple of inches and some ice accumalation. I got the tsc dealer to fill gear box, crankcase, and grease all the necessary fittings before loading it and at no extra charge. I too am impressed with the total weight and bulkiness of the tiller. I appreciate all the info on the tillers found in this forum. I think sometimes you do pay extra for the name as much as you do for the quality but a person just has to gather all the information he can before a purchase and see what others have to say who have already used the product and go from there. I paid $ 1475.00 plus $ 125.00 for tax. My local john deere dealer is not the most helpful and not too patient. he doesn't even have a sale pitch ,he just says when I ask about a frontier tiller "they're pretty high. that's it So I bought a kingKutter!

Re: Just got a King Kutter 72\" Tiller!

CCI,
I've got one of your CR-50 tillers ordered through my Massey dealer. I was wondering if the" 1 piece rigid side gearbox cover", and the "inter-locking double metal shield with a steel hub protecting the tine rotor seals & bearings" are also used with the lighterweight CR models? You listed these features with MR130 model, will my CR50 be the same?

Re: Just got a King Kutter 72\" Tiller!

The CR series does have a double shielded hub protecting the bearings and seals.
