I assume you are referring to 3 point hitch categories. Each category has a defined set of dimensions and pin sizes. Tractors with a given category 3ph can attach to any implement of that category, regardless of make. Category 0 is the smallest and is available on some garden tractors. Somewhat larger tractors have category 1 3 point hitches, etc. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You have to understand PTO's so you are not confused. First there are 3 predominate systems used in the world today.
<ul type="square"> 1-ASAE- USA Standard- MFG's Weasler & NEAPCO
- rating system- 6,12,14,18,35,44,55
2- Italian Style- triangular tubes BONDIOLI, Euro Cardan, etc
- rating system- 1-10
3-Waltersheid- lemon shaped tubes
- rating system- 2100,2200,2300,2400,2500
The categories refer to the rated normal maximum torque load that each category is designed to handle. The categories normally seen are 1-6 with 6 being the highest torque rated PTO shaft.

The Italian style shafts are the most used on implements. People sometimes confuse the Italian series with the ASAE Catagories since they both use a number system starting with 1.
The most common sizes used in the Italian series are:
<ul type="square">
Series 1- three point fertilizer spreaders
Series 3 & 4- finish mowers, light & med., rotary cutters, tillers, hay tedders, sq. balers, etc
Series 5- disc mowers, drum mowers, tillers, 6'-8' rotary cutters, etc
Series 6- round balers, 8-10' rotary cutters, disc mower conditioners, larger tillers
Series 8- flex wing cutters, large mixer wagons, forage choppers, etc.
