I've been installing field drains in a 4 acre meadow which has really made a mess of it so I need to prepare it for reseeding. At the moment the soil is quite soft but it will progressively harden as spring and then summer unfolds. If I tackle the cultivation soon, how big a disc harrow could I pull behind my L3130 Kubota in heavy soil?

It's in the owners manual, at least it was for the L3410's.

Thanks for the heads up on the manual. The information I needed is there on page 12 - L3130 can handle up to 72" disc with a maximum weight of 770 lbs.

I have a King Kutter 6 1/2' Heavy Duty Box Frame Disk that weighs 880 lbs. My Kubota L3430 pulls it fine. I use low range, four wheel drive and travel around 3.0 to 3.5 mph.

I've a chance at a used 7' weighing between 700 amd 750 pounds but I'm concerned it'll be too much disc and I'll just get bogged down. Weights ok, but the drag might not be. The price is good, though, and my gut says try it.

Inverseck:

Power required will also depend on the disc diameter. Outer discs can be relaced with spacer spools if required.

Egon, wasn't aware of the power/dsic size relationship although removing outer discs was an option I'd thought of. Is power directly related to increase in disc size or inversely?

Inveresk:

Larger the disc more power required as it can go deeper.
