kubota b7100
I've been researching a small mower for my Kubota b7100. I need to mow in tight places and on less than totally smooth ground. I may hit a few rocks. What I've learned is that many of the small ones (42" is what I'm thinking) lack stump jumper protection. I'm asking, Is the stump jumper an important part of a rotary cutter/bush hog? Any recommendations?

Never having owned or used one without the stump jumper, I can't say for sure, but I'd consider it pretty important. Personally, when I had a '95 B7100, I used a 48" Bush Hog Squealer, which had the stump jumper and I was quite pleased with it. I know the manual recommended 42" maximum, so I won't disagree with the manufacturer, but for me personally, the 48" was better.

Can't quite decide if you are talking mower (two or three blades) or rotary cutter (one bar swinging two blades).
Stump jumper is only important if you jump onto a stump and it tears up the gear box. Knock on wood, but I don't have one on my 5' rotary, and so far, no trouble.
Can you get a 42" rotary cutter?

The Land Pride RCR 15 Series offers a stump jumper. One model has a 42" cutting width. It weighs ~432# and is rated for 15 - 50 HP tractors. I had a Tebben TC96 - 40 (48") which had a stump jumper. My old Ford 1100 (13HP/11HP PTO) had no problems with the Tebben mowing brush and hitting obstacles without damage. Before I got the Tebben, I had a Woods M 40-1 (40"). It was a tank, but it did not have a stump jumper. I believe its ultimate demise was in part related to the fact that it did not have a stump jumper. I might add that the Woods took some serious abuse before I killed it. Jay

I'm talking about rotary cutter. I've noticed some say they've used a 48" inch with the B7100, although the manual says 42", and yes, the small size limits the choices. fyi--I'm talking about the hst model. The land pride does interest me, but I've yet to get an acceptable price quote on it.
