Anyone have a GenPower unit that runs off the PTO? I did a search and didn't turn up anything on GenPower; so that's why I'm asking. Was at the local home show this evening, and a guy had a GenPower 10 kW unit sitting there for $1,650. It includes the PTO shaft and a quite long 240 volt cable. Has also 2 120 volt outlets.

The thing just mounts onto the 3 ph, no wheels. He said the bigger units have wheels because of the torque. Looks like Cat 1 pins.

Is this the unit?

Looks like a good unit on paper and the generator end actually looks a lot like the Northern product...they probably use the same "Made in China" generator and just put it in a different package. Nice gauges. If it includes the 3pt mount and PTO shaft then it looks to be similarly priced to the Northern units.

Ralph,
I was looking into the company posted below, gave them a call, real nice people, heck you can drive up there in 30 minutes to pick it up! What HP is you PTO?

Looks like the unit from the site that Shimon sent.

I made the mistake in building my carriage house of not putting a "people" door on the main level! I'd have to crawl in a window and pull the emergency line on my garage door to the tractor side if I used the PTO-driven unit.

Think I'll have to get the builder back to replace one of the windows with a people door to use a PTO-driven generator. Guess I'll have to continue to run with the 4400 watt Suzuki generator.

Really stupid, not putting a people door on the main level.

I wanted a 3Pt generator until I gave it some thought. We have the power fail here about 3 or 4 times a year. If I wanted to use the generator, I would have to first fire up the tractor in the pole barn, then go get the genrator & hook it to the tractor, then hook up the cable to the transfer switch, often in the dark & the rain. Or maybe in a 40 mph wind and temps in the 20's.

Instead, I roll the generator out of the garage, hook the cable to the transfer switch, hit the starter & the B&S engine fires up & runs. Much quicker & simpler.

Actually, using my Suzuki is easier than that. All I have to do is remove the plastic cover, open the fuel valve, wait about 2-3 minutes for the carb to fill, then turn the key to start it. A Suzuki doesn't seem to start as quickly as a good B&S; that's all. Have it on my schedule to do this once/month. Usually ends up about every 6 weeks, just to run it to keep the battery up, etc. Gotta run it at least about 10-15 minutes just to make sure the battery comes back up. Usually use its power for something, as I can easily swap the carriage house to its power for this period of time.

'Twould be nicer to have a generator a tad bigger so that I wouldn't have to shut down everything to run the well pump. A bigger one would have to be a diesel, else it would take too much gasoline for when the power is down. The Suzuki uses about 1/2 gallon/hour.

Our neighbors when I was growing up on the farm built a detached garage with no "people" door...or windows. I vividly remember being up on a ladder in the middle of a snowstorm, wiring in an edison plug to the garage's main overhead line so that we could hook up our generator to get their pickup out!

To answer the next question...we tried pulling the meter and backfeeding the entire farm, but the doors were frozen shut on the hog buildings, and all the augers on the feed lines kicked in at once and popped the breaker on the generator.
