I just recently purchased a rear blade for my JD 790 tractor. Unfortunately the bottom link points on the blade are the exact width of the quick hitch. There's talk of adapter bushings out there. I looked at some and didn't have a clue on how they would cure my problem. Does anyone know how these "adapter" bushings work ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If this means that the implement lift pins are more than 26" apart, reverse them in their holes. Typically they're installed pin end out/threaded end in. Remove the pins, reverse them in their holes - so that the pin ends are pointing at each other. That might get you to within the required pickup width.

If the lower hooks on the quick hitch line up with the frame of the blade, then the blade frame is not right for the quick hitch. However, if the pins line up, then the bushing adapters will go on with the large diameter out beyond the hooks. See attached ballast box for how mine are afixed.

Pins in or out makes no difference in this case. The link pins on the implement go through holes in the implement frame. Pin on one side, lock washer and nut on the other. The hooks on my quick hitch line up exactly with the frame sections that have the holes.

Apparently you and I were responding to Greg at the same time. You've hit the nail on the head. Looks like either the blade needs to be returned or I'll have to take off the quick hitch when I use the blade. I thought there'd be a standard width for the pins on a category 1 implement. Guess I was wrong.

There is a standard width, unfortunately many folks ignore it when they build....

What is the purpose of the adapter bushings?

Do they just provide a more snug fit because they are a bit larger?

Are they ther so that the hook does not slip of the end - noticed that the end of the bushing is larger.

My dealer let me try out the Land Pride QH for a bit and it did not come with adapter bushings. He'll have to order them for me if I keep it. But both my ballast box and rotary cutter do not have an open end for the hook to come of. So I'm just wondering if I still really ought to get the bushings just to make the pins a larger diameter.

Many Quick Hitches come with Cat 2 lift arms designed to hold 1-1/8' implement lift pins. Many implements however, have Cat 1 (7/8") lift pins. The adapter bushings slip over the Cat 1 pins to give them a Cat 2 diameter. For larger tractors/implements there are bushing sets to make Cat 2 pins fit Cat 3 hitches. See THIS PAGE to get an idea of the different sized hitches. It should also help you pick out implements that have the correct pin spacing for your own Quick Hitch.

Farm and Fleet and Tractor Supply both sell the lift pin Quick Hitch adapter Bushings - cost is about $23 for the pair. John Deere also sells a kit with the two lift pin bushings and the top link sleeves as well - cost is about $30.

I just received my Frontier Rear Blade model 2072 today and also had to add the lift pin busings to it to mate it up correctly with my John Deere Imatch quick hitch. The blade had a welded Imatch compatable top link pin already. I like the setup very much.

As Greg says, many quick hitches come with big hooks, oversize for reg cat 1 implements. The sleeve bushings make a fatter, longer pin with a knob on the end so the pin can't slip out of the hitch hook. It's a big deal on cat 2/ cat 3 stuff, not quite so big a deal on cat 1 stuff I guess.
