I'm looking for a 4 foot rotary cutter and was wondering on some price comparisons. I know deere has a lx4. Anyone know a price? Any other brands I should be looking at? The stronger built the better ,but I'm finding that 4 footers don't seem to have much selection. I'd like to go bigger as well but I'm afraid of hurting my 2210. That may seem odd from a guy pulling a 84" finishing mower on that same machine, but One huge blade cutting brush is a lot different that 3 small ones cutting my pathetic lawn.

Woods Equipment makes an excellent 48" mower. I'm surprised at how well my economy Howser cutter is doing. It's now into it's 3rd season, and holding up great and does a good cutting job.

I'm not sure what prices are running as I bought everything in Jan. 2004, and I didn't pay for the mower but I think the Howse is running from about $500.

I've read good reports on the King Kutter brand from TSC and others. They are also economy brands, and if you're not doing this commercially, or don't have umpteen acres to hog every season, they should last for years.

I haven't kept up with prices to know how they'd compare, but I used to have a 4' Bush Hog Squealer that I sure liked.

I had a Woods M-40 for many years before my 6+A's of rough field/poplars finally did it in. I replaced it with a Tebben 40" economy cutter and was satisfied with its performance to the point that I purchased a Tebben 60" medium duty cutter when I upgraded tractors. The Tebben economy cutter comes in 40", 48", 60" and 72" sizes. The economy cutters have 40HP gearboxes, stump jumper pans, and you can order a slip clutch. The Tebben was very competitive price wise. Jay

I've got an LX-4 and bought it about 3 years ago. I don't recall the price, but it has the stump jumper and the slip clutch. With what I've hit with it, I'd have gone through dozens of shear pins.

I would definitely go for the slip clutch.

The only problem with the LX-4 is that two oil seals have failed. The first was under warranty, the second, a different seal was not. Also, the light weight attachment to keep the shaft cover from turning didn't last too long. I replaced it with a lightweight plastic covered chain attached with a hose clamp. Works well. Other than those problems, the cutter seems well made for a light duty model, and was very well finished. Good paint and no ragged welds.

I've had great luck with howse and KK...

You can pay 'sky's the limit' on a mower if you look around.

Try a 5 footer on that machine. You can always shift down or take less of a bite, but a 48" will never cut more than 44". You won't cut big stuff only the first time and if it is to big hire a rig for the rough mowing. bcs

I have a 48" King Kutter rotary mower that I use on my 21HP Kubota B7510HST. Works fine. $675 from Tractor Supply co. last summer. Price is higher now because of higher steel price.

The brand and price really will depend on how much and how hard you are going to use it. I use my four footer to cut 8 acres of pretty steep pasture three or four times a season so I don't put a whole lot of hours on it, maybe 50 hours a year at the very most. Mine is a junky, el cheapo model made by "Busy Bee", I think. Four years ago it cost about $450 and it has stood up well considering it spends all its time sitting outside and the fact that I'm not too gentle with it.

I don't know anything about the 2210 but I know I couldn't pull a 5' mower behing my 18 PTO HP B2400 on my hills without it totally bogging down. Even on the flat, when cutting thick, tall grass it will sometimes drag the rpm's down.
