Boom Poles

What does anybody know about boom poles?

Are they stationary or can they travel up and down? The only picture I can find with one mounted, the lower arms are all the way down while the top link is all the way up.

They seem to promote tipping if you dont have a few hundred #s on the front.

Seems real tempting for getting some things moved that i don't have the back (or FEL) for.

All the ones I've seen attach to the 3 PH, so it will go up and down as much as your hitch, and you can also adjust it with your top link to fine tune it to your needs.

It's too dark now, but tomorrow if I remember, I'll take a picture of mine.

They have a few flavors depending on lift capacity:
500 lbs., 1000 lbs., and 2000 lbs.

Most Quality Farm & Fleet or TSC are the 500 lbs. variety about $69-89., about 7 1/2 ' long, with a loop on the end of the boom pole and some have a loop in the middle {for lifting}

Yes being a 3-point hitch implement, you can raise and lower it and drive the tractor with the rear load...

Remember back in the days as a kid on a seesaw...? The big fatman comes along and jumps on the other side... guess what happens to you... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

It's one big lever, obviously too much weigh will lift the front wheels right off the ground... so a little caution...

We don't hear too much from him lately, but our buddy, TexasJeff, uses a boom pole on the back of his IH254. I just happen to have saved the picture he posted last year and have attached it here.

I don't have one (yet), but I've thought that ought to have quite a range of lift with the 3-point lift AND the hydraulic top link.

be careful... that king kutter is a 500 lb. capacity. Odds are you have at least 1 implement heavier than that. Use mine mostly for maneuvering rotary and finish deck into tight storage spots.

That's a little surprising to me. Even the one Tractor Supply Co. sells is rated for 1,000, which is likely the one I'd buy, if I ever buy one.

Hi All,

Here's a pic of my B2910 and boom pole pulling out a 120 gallon stone lined hot water heater out of my Dad's basement last November. (One of those odd uses for my tractor that I never would have thought of before I bought it.) The boom pole came from Norther Equipment. (Don't ask about the "miles" of cable. My dad wouldn't let me cut it to shorten it, so we took up the extra 70 feet or so by wrapping it around the boom pole. Riggers we ain't!)

As far as adjusting the height, the 3 pt. hitch will allow it to be raised or lowered. The top link adjusts the range of this movement. For instance, to remove the water heater out of the basement, I had the top link extended so the boom angled down into the basement. If the top link was shortened all the way, the top of the pole is quite a bit higher.

The boom poles are very reasonable in price, and for the money, I think they're a good investment.
