Chipper Great Deal On China Chippers

I just got one from Chinabest. At $1550 plus $60 for warehouse services I think it is a good deal, comparing favorably to chippers at twice the price. You will need an 18mm wrench-weird. You will have to do a little assembly - the bottom "skirt" on which it stands, and the 3pt lower brackets. The PTO shaft is short so adjust to bring it close to the tractor w/o interference. After you get it standing on its own take all the covers and inspection ports off and check all bolts and assemblies. You may find some crucial structural bolts loose or only snug. The power feed shaft is reportedly a weak point in the assembly. It may be adequately strong but fails in a few 10s of hours due to difficulty in keeping it lubed. There is a telescopic shaft, with a knuckle type u-joint on each end, running between two 1/2" sq stub shafts. There is a zerk on the telescopic shaft. This zerk is meant to lube the telescoping element and the knuckles. Trouble is, the grease path down the male shaft element is long and not large enuff to prevent restriction. It essentially stalls flow to the bottom knuckle. You must flush fresh grease through both knuckles before or after every use. If it is not getting to the bottom knuckle you will have to find a way to restrict the flow to the top knuckle so that enuff pressure can be built up to cause grease to flow down the long hole in the male shaft element. This will entail a restrictor in the female element. I used a section of a rubber cork about 3/8" long with a 3/32" hole drilled through it and I also enlarged the hole in the male element from 3/16 to 1/4". This latter required difficult disassembly which I had done anyway while assessing- - and a carbide drillbit. I think just a restrictor in the female w about a 1/16 hole would be good. Be alert to the possibility of the hole closing up some due to compression and swelling from the grease. Actual cork would be ideal if you be sure that no particles break off on jagged broachings inside the hex shaped hole and are left to plug the critical orifice you have constructed. - - The 1/2" stub shafts are another wear point that will finally fail. Grease or immobilization of the joint interface. Ill figure something. I dont like the idea of a single set screw because I think it will wallow. If they only made a Loctite that lost about 90% of its strength abruptly at about boiling! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

DFW, how is your FarmPro Chipper working for you? I assume you bought it from Homier or one of their distributors. Do you or anyone else on this forum know if it is the same as the Jinma chipper, just with the Farm Pro label on it? I called Homier to talk about the chippers and ask about the warranty but they were a little fuzzy on how long the warranty was.

Like a bear! Last weekend spent about 4 hours chipping the last of this years cleanup. Put everything from brush to a 6" semi-rotten oak through it and filled up my trailer in no time. There is one modification that was mentioned in another post that I think would be essential. That is a foot pedal or something to lift the feed roller. I find that the manzanita gets stuck and it would be nice to be able to raise the feed roller to pull it out.

Yes, I believe that the FarmPro is the same and I did get it from Homier.

Good luck,

David
