SICKLE BAR MOWER ?\'S

I am thinking of purchasing a sickle bar mower to control growth along my drive rather than a rotary cutter as the terrin is not suitable to drive with a rotary and the bar being offset would do the trick.

How much power is needed? My CUT is a 20hp.
How much unstability will a bar introduce due to side weight?
Pro's and cons of belt driven vs pitman arm type?
Finally is HABAN suitable for this sort of usage on a cat 1 3pt or are they merely for garden mower types.

Thanks for info that I am sure will come from all you TBN 'Pro's'.

Re: SICKLE BAR MOWER ?\'S

It takes hardly any power at all to run a sickle bar mower. You have plenty. I've seen 'em on some mighty light tractors (i.e. Cubs) without problems from bar weight. Pitman arm mowers are generally not nearly as smooth operating, but did the job for years.

I have to agree with junk on this. You have plenty of power and the bar weight is nothing to worry about. I would recomend belt any day over the pitman arm. While its true the did the job for years I don't know how easy it is to get replacement parts for them. As for the brand of mower you are talking about I have no experience with them.

Piloon,
I have a 3 pt Haban in a 5ft length bar with a hydraulic lift and It Is a nicely made mower. I use it to cut the road sides where I live and trash growth like small trees heavy vines are nothing for it. You can get replacement parts easily. You have plenty of tractor for it. I used it first on a 20 horse compact and now on thirty horse tractor.
If you can find a 3 pt in good shape you'll be happy with it.
The Habans are a belt drive, in my opinion the best arrangement to have, It will mow from below horizontal to completely upright.

Re: SICKLE BAR MOWER ?\'S

Why double action? My preference is single action. Double action isn't necessary at all. Brand new one single action sickle mower from me is $1000. I like competition. lol

Ahhh..Nomad.

I haven't seen your your Turkish, design obsconding presence around in quite a while.

All sellers be careful with pricing and pictures as Mr. Nomad will turn them in no time while trying to find new vendors all along the East Coast and Gulf. It's nothing new, he's been there before.....just kind of quiet lately.

He's essentially asking you why he shouldn't go with single-action sicklets vs. doubles.......in what he tries to ship.

Make no mistakes, folks, steer clear of the Nomad.

Re: SICKLE BAR MOWER ?\'S

Joe, I will enlighten you.
CCM tillers, drum mowers, etc are made in Turkey.
Mark had not stayed away from Nomad and he must be happy with the products he is selling now. Isn't he, folks?

Let me also add: Agri-Supply too was happy when he was not staying away from Nomad. They are selling hay rakes and seats I offered them a few years ago. Aha, Pieter of First Choice too was so. But, I wonder if he is still around OR he is selling expensive Italian items with lower quality than Turkey products.
