well, I finally got to try out my new grapple rake over the past few days. WOW. Talk about a time saver! I used to clear land with my bucket and tooth bar, then follow up with a landscape rake, but the root grapple does a MUCH better job, and leaves most of the top soil there. I even popped out a few small stumps for fun /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I was impressed both with the service and quality of the implement, as well as dealing with WR Long and Rodicks up in Schroon Lake (NY). There are closer dealers to me, but Rodicks is easy to work with and are happy to help you even if your tractor isn't the color they sell....

I read EVERY post on here on root grapples, and went back and forth on whether to get one, and am glad I did...as is my wife, thankfully /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I have a 4n1 bucket, and it has been very useful but I've come to realize that what I really need is one of Long's Root Grapple Rakes. I came very close to getting one but they don't currently have any dealers they work with in Canada, and my JD dealer had a 4n1 on the lot and was willing to deal...

But I've decided to get one, maybe in the fall. And if it's FUN, then that's even better! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Of course, I wouldn't use it JUST for fun... not ALL the time... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Dealers near by - the closest W.R. Long dealer was a ways away for me as well-I called them and asked how they work their dealerships, and called Rodick and asked if they were willing to talk to W.R. Long. Now Rodick is a dealer:) Worked out great for both of us.

Now that I have the 3rd set of hydraulics up front I might figure out a "thumb" attachment for my current bucket-for the small extra cost it might come in handy quite a bit when I have something to move but don't want to take the time to switch to the root grapple.

Your going to love that grapple. I got mine a month ago and have cleared so many trees so quickly with that grapple. Plus it's nice to pull small sapplings right out of the ground the the root part of it. Strong grapple.

Are you using the WR Long hydraulic kit with the rocker switch on the FEL control? If so, how do you like it? Any noticeable difference in how the loader responds? If you don’t mind me asking, about what was the cost of the hydraulic kit?

I just bought the electric/hydraulic kit from WR Long for my Kubota. Nelson quoted me $519 MSRP. I went to the local Long dealer (JD) and they ordered it for me.

BTW, the kit is loader specific due to the hose lengths and mounting bracketry.

Whoa now, you are about to give up my cover. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I had to convince my wife of all the WORK I could do with a root grapple and if she catches wind that it's fun then I am in deep trouble. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Remember, work, work, work. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

They will move a lot of stuff fast. I've used mine a bunch lately and it always amazes me what I can do with that thing.

I bought mine as a whole kit and had my local dealer install it for me, so not sure on the breakdown of costs. I like the rocker switch, and it raised my stick a little higher which helped me out much better then before

Mine was the kit minus the hoses, with Rodick in Schroon Lake NY making up the hoses during the install of the valve. It is the WR Long kit, and works really well-no real change in loader response.

I suspect I'll be getting into a lot of trouble with that Grapple....

I was thinking of getting the Long RGB2 root grapple too when I came across an ebay ad for a Millonzi light duty grapple. Got if for a great price and then got the company to make me an adapter (it's a QA grapple). I've also had fun moving huge piles of brush. I'm afraid I will run out of brush piles long before I'm ready to stop playing with the grapple. I'll get around to posting a review of it one of these days but for now I'll just show a photo of my biggest brush load in one bite. The grapple is 48" wide with a single hydraulic cylinder and that the tractor is a 21hp Kioti CK20. I run the grapple off a rear remote.
