I am thinking of getting a box blade for a MF 1010, 16hp, 4wd, and am not sure what size to get. I want to use it to do some leveling and to loosen rocks for later removal with a rock rake.My tractor is about 4 feet wide. Will the blade do what I need it to? Will my tractor be able to pull it? Thanks for any feedback.

Just be sure the box blade is as wide (preferably slightly wider) than the tractor. I used a 4' blade behind my B7100 (16hp), but traded up to a 5' one for the B2710.

dav,
You wrote " box blade" but what model?
I know of 2 models and there could be more.
There a roll over box blade which weights about 550 lbs,and the box blades which weight about 250 lbs.
Bush Hog has both models in 48' & 60' also Bush Hog states box blade needs at least 15hp for the 48"

I have 16hp and Bush Hog 60" box blade and my 3 point hitch unit handles it well.

dav,if you get a chance check out the York Company at www.yorkmodern.com /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
The model RI to me is the best of both worlds, but the prices will [shock] you!! I purchase the RI model this spring and now my box blade sets idle.

Some tractor operators like to purchase by the wheel base and some don't thats if they have the horse power.
I perfer the next size up compare to my wheel base.

Maybe your locate dealer has some literature.
Take care and have a good day.

dav, I am pretty sure most any box "scraper or blade" will work within the width limits of your tractor. As Mr Bird mentioned, get one a little wider then the tractors wheelbase. If you have a loader, get as heavy of one as your are able to afford. It not only helps as a counter weight, but can do a better job helping to keep the cutting edge on the ground. Rat...

TufLine makes some good box blades. Check their website http://www.monroetufline.com for info on box blades and other equipment. They do not sell retail but you can email them for information about their equipment and dealers in your area.

Bird,

You forgot to tell him why.

If the boxblade is not as wide as the tractor and you need to scrape up against a house or fence......oops! It is embarrasing when the tractor tire removes the window trim. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I have a KingKutter XB 48'' that I pull behind a 23 horse 2210 JohnDeere. I bet it would work for your tractor. It has 4 easy to ajust teeth that have three settings. Ive only used the max up and max down settings but it works great. It might work better for your tractor rather than a 5'.
