Hoping someone can help me with this project. I need to seed this area. Obviously, there are a lot of rocks that all need to come out. Soil is quite compacted. Do I need another layer of fill that's cleaner or can this be done with the right attachment(s)? Help! Thanks!

We do not have the rocks down here, I just seeded a area sort of like that around septic tank where the dirt was very unlevel and grass sparse. I used box blade rippers to break the dirt up. Then raised the rippers and leveled the area.Bahia grass seed was spread by hand and worked in with a garden rake.If area is too big to use rake or hand spread the grass, a pto spreader and chain harrow can be used on large scale. A three point landscape rake can also be used to help clear rocks and debris from the area.Guess a lot depends on what you have allready and how much you would use the other equipment along with costs

I see you don't have a box blade or landscape rake listed in your equipment. If you must buy one, I'd make it a box blade.

You can use the rippers to dig up a lot of the rocks as long as they're not huge, and at the same time be breaking up the soil.
Then, using the blades without the rippers, level it up and put out your seed.

Here is a link to a good how to article by Lowe's. It covers seeding a new lawn or an established lawn, and provides pretty good information.

So ideally you'd tear up the surface with a box blade and then go over it with a landscape rake? Sorry - never done this kind of thing before.

ditto what kiotijohn recommends.

i've reclaimed over 10 acres of pasture, and have put in a fresh lawn behind the farm house.

i would use a box blade (with scarifiers if the soil needs to be broken up), followed by a landscape rake to make a consistent top layer for the seed bed.

i've also skipped the landscape rake and gone with an old bed spring chained to the back of an ATV.

seed just before a rain and the water droplets will help integrate the seed into the soft top layer of soil.

good luck.
