Worm Gear winch

I was looking at the the following 4T worm gear winch that is made to work of PTO/Drive shaft of a truck, RV or other vehicle. http://www.northerntool.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=334777&prmenbr=6970

On the spec sheet is says that "One way PTO drive-not reversible at drive shaft"

I was looking at purchasing this winch and running it off a hydraulic motor. Do they mean that the worm drive can only be run one way or that it can only be monted one way? IE: Can a worm drive be run in both directions with an hydraulic motor or just one way?

Could a person run cable spool directly from a Hydraulic motor?

I'm not finding the spec sheet you mention, but from the picture, it appears to be a simple single directional winch, with free spooling.
"Not reversible at input shaft" would normally mean a cheap construction on the gearbox, with a thrust bearing only at one end. Such a design would be cheap to build, and effective for such jobs as pulling a truck out of the mud, but not useful for lifting and lowering under power.
In my opinion, the vendor is not all that good, and the price is exhorbidant. Do a Google search for winches, there are lots of reputible manufacturers with decent pricing.
As to the question of just coupling a spool directly to a hydraulit motor, doable, but dangerous. Worm gear reductions provide lots of safety especially with regard to load holding.
Also remember there are torque considerations on a winch drum. An empty drum might have 5 tons of pull at the first wrap of cable, but the same drum will drop to around 3 tons of pull when it is nearly full of cable.
Winches are dangerous, and will kill. Do a lot of learning before you do any buying and winching.

I looked at picture of <font color=red> Winch</font color=red>. It looks like it has a clutch that is disengaged to let drum free wheel. As Franz stated it probably does not have a worm drive that will allow loads in both directions.

I have a worm gear winch, its mounted on 59 power wagon.I got it at sale, it was set up to have the pto shafts running on right side.I needed it on the left side, All I had to do was unbolt the worm gear and reverse it, very simple to do.The name of it is Koenig made in Houston Texas. Awesome winch, I've abused it alot and never broke it, only the 1/2 in. cable broke. Have it set up so it runs off the transfer case that way I can shift the tranfer to neutral,and then I can use the transmission, gears 1 thur 4 and R . This way I can winch very slow or very fast or in -R- to let something down or out!!!!
