Has anybody hinged their roll bar? Interested to see how you made it work.

Any mods to a ROPS would invalidate its certification.

Yea but they do it at the factory. Mine came from the factory hinged.

I realize that I will not be able to sue Kubota if I mod. the roll bar, but something is better than nothing, which I have now because I can't fit the tractor into the garage with the bar on.

I have a certified welder on standby while I try to figure out a hinging mechanism. I won't hold anyone responsible.

Is it close? My ROPS was about 2 inches too tall for my shop door, but by removing some trim from the top of the opening and lowering the dirt leading up to the door, I found I could back my tractor in okay.

What's so special about backing in? Kinda hard to explain without pictures, but the fact that the ROPS is behind the rear axle, means the ROPS will pass through the door before the wheels climb up onto the slab (in my case). I've posted this doodle before, but here it is again, just as a visual aid:

There was a post (somewhere/w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif) by someone who sawed a couple inches out of the straight sections and welded back together with solid pcs. inside the tubes for reinforcement. It would not fold but it did a nice job of lowering the clearance required.

The reason backing in is probably working is that the ROP is slightly slanted to the rear of the tractor. In effect, you are putting in the ROPS before the tractor.

Yes, even though it's not technically legal. I fabricated mine with a piece of 1/4" plate steel, a piece of 5/8" ID black pipe and (4) 1/2" grade 8 bolts. Before removing the rops from the tractor, I marked the heighth for my cuts and marked a coupl of spots for front and back on both halves. After removing, I cut the rops in half, then cut a piece of plate to fit over the open ends which were welded in place. I then used some more plate to attach to either side of the bottom rops (rops width x 2 = 4"x4" for mine). Rear view, should resemble a U shape with the plate being higher than the bottom post. On the top rear section, I welded on the piece of black pipe for my hinge.
