I recently purchased an older Allis Chalmers 2 row corn planter for planting crop strips. I raise and train bird dogs, and am doing everything possible to attract and keep quail on our land. After using it for the first time today, I noticed several times the firmer wheels were not turning. What is the correct set up for these units? That is to say how should they set when ready to use? Where can I find out what model it is, and possibly a manual? What seed plates are available? Thanks for any help.

Mike, I didn't see any planters in your link. I did see a fine looking tractor and lots of excellent craftsmanship in additional details. I've attached a picture, hopefully you can see enough detail. There are several on e-bay like it. Other than a few differences in seed boxes and openers.

Take a picture of the planter and take it to an Agco dealer. They can probably tell you what model it is and get you a manual. If you haven't had any experience with old planters, its almost necessary to have a manual and learn as much as possible before trying to use one. The main thing is to learn about different plate sizes and sprocket combinations for proper seed population. I know from past experience that it is better to do it this way because trial and error be frustrating.
